    2009, 30(3): 1-8 .
    Abstract ( 1773 )   PDF (1102KB) ( 2434 )
Abstract: In the 21 century, the tempo of emerging industries will fundamentally determine Chinese status and competence on the international market. In the new era, China must face the following vital issues: how to deal with the increasingly internal and external competition, how to establish the strategies and focus of the development of emerging industries scientifically, how to exert the role of the government macroeconomic regulation, how to promote the development of emerging industries rapidly, healthily, and sustainably. The government function in the development of emerging industries is researched from the perspective of national political institution frameworks and it is proposed that different national political institution frameworks determine different government behaviors, and different government behaviors lead to different policy directions, and influence the development paths of the emerging industries. Based on these views, the model about the relationship between mechanisms of government function and the development of emerging industries is built.

    2009, 30(3): 79-88 .
    Abstract ( 1801 )   PDF (950KB) ( 2188 )
Abstract: The contradiction between the ineffectiveness of patent monopolizing innovation profit and the high increasing of patent quantity causes the discussion on the motives for enterprise patent protection. The research background of motives for patent protection and empirical results in recently 10 years are reviewed, the evolvement of the motives for patent protection and main influence factors are summarized and analyzed. These researches consistently show that the importance of traditional patent protection motive derived from technology requirement has decreased, but the driving strength to the patent of strategy competition and cooperation becomes increasingly important. Moreover, the motives for patent protection are affected by enterprise exterior factors e.g. industry, nation, and enterprise interior factors such as size, innovation type, competition intensity, and R&D intensity. At last, it is presented that in the future, the empirical research on the motives for patent protection in Chinese enterprises should be focus on. Key words: patent protection; motive; innovation

    2009, 30(3): 124-131 .
    Abstract ( 1800 )   PDF (933KB) ( 2779 )
Abstract: How institutional change factors and entrepreneurial factors influence on the corporate capital structure is focused on. Empirical studies on how the six entrepreneurial factors influence on the book-valued liability rate (TL) are carried out by using 118 listed firm panel data (1993-2006). The result indicates that some of the entrepreneurial factors, namely, return on asset, size, non-debt tax shields, TOBIN’Q explain TL the most. However, the results widely differ from year to year when using cross-section data in same period. The important discorery is that both institutional change factor and entrepreneurial factor are the remarkable influence variables for corporate capital structure, when analyzing the historical data from 1993 to 2006 by means of ADF stationary test and regression method. The result shows that entrepreneurial factor correlates with book-valued liability rate positively and institutional change factor correlates with book-valued liability rate negatively.

Research on the prediction model of Chinese coastal port throughput

    Kuang Haibo
    2009, 30(3): 187-192 .
    Abstract ( 1921 )   PDF (1130KB) ( 2325 )
Abstract: Considering the Chinese port present conditions and port throughput prediction theory, cluster-Vector Auto-Regression(VAR) sub-category of goods throughput prediction model is set up by analyzing Chinese coastal port cargo composition. It improves the prediction precision and accuracy for Chinese coastal port throughput, which provides more reliable reference for investment planning, etc. The main characteristics of this model are: Firstly, the capacity of Chinese coastal ports is analyzed and forecasted from the port throughput composition. It solves the pitfall that existing literature doesn’t mine information deep enough due to choosing port throughput or a small number of macroeconomic indicators, such as GDP time series prediction variables for the forecast. Secondly, with considering the coordinative relationship between major coastal port cargo category throughputs, the coastal port cargo category throughputs index is treated by using cluster analysis method. The maximum information is retained to ensure the accuracy of prediction model. Thirdly, the model is convenient and flexible, which could be extended to the throughput prediction for a single port or port group, or even extended to a wider range of the prediction problem possessing more time series indicators.
