Ambidexterity mechanism of enterprise innovation capability reconfiguration under strategic transition context:A longitude case study in Sunyardfrom 1996 to 2012
    Chen Litian, Wu Zhiyan
    2014, 35(2): 1-9.
    Abstract ( 2074 )
Under the background of economic transition and upgrading, it becomes the focus issue in both academia and industry that how enterprises, whoused to adopt the imitation strategy, achieve capability reconfiguration. In order to solve this problem, this paper selected Sunyard, a software enterprise, as the observed sample, and conducted a longitude case study (from 1996 to 2012). Results showed an ambidexterity mechanism between capability disruptive learning and capability reinforced learning in the process of enterprise innovation capability reconfiguration. On the one hand, there is a top-down capability disruptive learning mechanism. Enterprises with complex strategic schema are able to recognize new opportunities during strategic learning process, and identify the direction of new variation of innovation capability reconfiguration. On the other hand, there is a bottom-up capability reinforced learning mechanism. Enterprises abstract routines form work practices during routinized learning process. Then, enterprises abstract capabilities form routines and leveraged it from personal-level to enterprise-level during capability learning process. This finding integrated the theory of capability disruptive learning (strategic learning) and capability reinforced learning (capability learning and routinized learning), highlighted the ambidexterity mechanism between them. This paper not only has theoretical contribution on dynamic capability perspective, capability reconfiguration and organizational learning theory, but also has managerial implication on enterprises' innovation management practice under transition context.

Zhao Yapu, Zhang Wenhong, Chen Silei
    2014, 35(2): 10-16.
    Abstract ( 1728 )
Scholars usually focus on the relationship between organizational slack and firm performance, but overlooks the influence offirm exploration. Based on resource-based view and organizational inertia perspective, this study examines the effect of organizational slack on firm exploration using 187 high-tech manufacturing firms from China. The results show that (1) the effect of organizational slack on firm exploration is positive; (2) the dynamic environment positively moderates the relationship between organizational slack and firm exploration. The findings indicate that single theory is insufficient to fully explicate their relationship. By integrating resource-based view and organizational inertia perspective, we could further understand the phenomenon.

    Lin Chunpei, Zhang Zhengang
    2014, 35(2): 25-34.
    Abstract ( 1822 )
Open innovation, joint development and knowledge absorption havebecome the focus of innovative theory development and practice.Based on existingresearch, the concept of absorptive capacityis explored firstly, then the components and structure of absorptive capacity from the perspective of process is proposed, and finally an empirical research is conducted byquestionnaire survey and confirmatory factor analysis. The results showthat enterprise absorptive capacity from the perspective of process is a complex concept with third-order dimensions, that is, there exists a recursive relation between the first-order factors for describing the knowledge processing function and the second-order factors for describing the organizational learning process, and the three second-order factors can also be converged to a higher-level factor.

Influence of venture capital background on firms’technological innovation
    Gou Yannan, Dong Jing
    2014, 35(2): 35-42.
    Abstract ( 2219 )
Venture capital is a very important channel for technological firms and innovation activities to get finance. Through an empirical study on firms listed on the Small and Medium Enterprise Board in China, this paper finds that, seen either from R&D investment orfrom number of patents, the firms with venture capitaloutperform significantly the firms without venture capital in technological innovation. Further regression analysisfinds that, for difference on capital background and experience background, venture capitals have different influence on firms'technological innovation. The government-backed venture capital participation, the corporate-backed venture capital participation, and the participation of venture capital with mixed capital backgrounds have negative correlations with firms' R&D investment. The more experiences the venture capitals have, the more positive their influence on firms' R&D investment.

    Jing Runtian, Hu Siyao
    2014, 35(2): 62-69.
    Abstract ( 1725 )
Focusing on the affective exchange relationship between leaders and members in research teams, this study examines the impact of leader's role-taking capability upon the leader-member exchange relationship and the influencing mechanism of the above two factors on team performance. Paired questionnaire surveys from 150 research teams in 6 Chinese universities are conducted, with returned questionnaires from 97 team leaders and 402 team members. Based on the team-level data, the structural equation modeling method is employed to test the hypotheses. The results show that: Team leader's role-taking and professional respect have significant impacts on affective exchange between leader and members; Team members' morale plays a mediating role between affective exchange and team performance; and the mediating effect of the sense of belonging is insignificant. The above conclusions would benefit our understandings of leader-member exchange from the view of emotional capability of team leaders, which can provide important practical guiding values in improving the managerial skills of research teams.

Mao Hongtao, Zhou Yan, Ren Xulin, Zhang Zhengyong
    2014, 35(2): 70-78.
    Abstract ( 1820 )
Management accounting and controls (MACs) have being applied more frequently and broadly in Chinese firms in recent years. However, little literature studies the effectiveness of MACs. We conduct a survey of 293 construction projects and adopt the structural equation model to analyze the influence of MACs on firm performance. We find that application of MACs can directly improve firms' financial performance and indirectly affect financial performance through the development of firms' core competence. In its application process, MACs improve firms' core competence and bring sustainable competitiveness through the integration of core competence. Further, we find that the development level of MACs affects their influence on core competence and firm performance. The more developed MACs are, the more obvious the influence on firm performance is. Therefore, this paper provides guidance for understanding, choosing and implementing MACs.

    Zhou Jun, Xue Qiuzhi
    2014, 35(2): 87-93.
    Abstract ( 1988 )
Fromthe theoretical perspective of organizational learning, this paper explores the cultivating mechanism and the effect of organizational ambidexterity on firm performance. Based on statistical analyses and case studies, this paper arrives at the following conclusions. Firstly, organizational learning promotes organizational ambidexterity. Secondly, organizational ambidexterity improves firm performance. Last but not theleast, organizational ambidexterity plays a partially mediating role between organizational learning and firm performance. Taken together, this research reveals another kind of contextual ambidexterity which is different from Gibson and Birkinshaw's(2004), clarifies the mechanisms of impact organizational context has on organizational ambidexterity, and enriches the empirical evidence on the relationship between organizational ambidexterity and organizationalperformance.

Relationship between social network, entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention
Wu Xiaobo, Zhang Chaoqun, Wang Ying
    2014, 35(2): 104-110.
    Abstract ( 1608 )
Focusing on the fundamental question of "how social network impacts entrepreneurial intention", and by reviewing relevant literature, this paper established a conceptual model of the relationship between social network, entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention. We used questionnaire to collect data from college students, and hypotheses were tested by hierarchical regressions. The results showed that the larger, stronger related and more heterogeneous the social network was, the stronger the entrepreneurial self-efficacy was; the network centrality could only improve entrepreneurial self-efficacy ofrisk tolerance, but did not have any significant effect on entrepreneurial self-efficacy of opportunity identification. Both entrepreneurial self-efficacy of opportunity identification and risk tolerance had significantly positive effects on entrepreneurial intentions. Entrepreneurial self-efficacy played a partially mediating role in the relationship between social network and entrepreneurial intention.

Liu Chen, Shan Wei, Yu Jing
    2014, 35(2): 145-153.
    Abstract ( 1979 )
For the dynamicsof knowledge sharingandvariety of knowledge structure within organizations, in this paper, knowledge-sharing games are divided into four kinds according to knowledge diversityand knowledge structure. Based on this, a single-group and a multi-group dynamicgame model are built to analyze the Evolutionary Stable Strategies (ESSs) and their stability domain of these models, and results show that the completion of knowledge sharing of an organization depends on incentive policy, knowledge structure and initial state of knowledge sharing, and sharing knowledge while meeting the binding of stability domain may be the ESS. These results can provide theoretical guide and decision support for an organization to realize high level knowledge sharing.

Zhu Wenlong, Shao Peiji, Fang Jiaming
    2014, 35(2): 154-160.
    Abstract ( 1920 )
Social network sites provide new survey ways and platforms for science research investigators, whocan implement science research surveys in different survey situations based on different social network sites to make up for the problem of low sample coverage in a single survey mode. By using the CFA, this paper had studied the consistency of science research data between the anonymous survey and non-anonymous survey based on the Renren website and Tencent QQ platform. Ultimately, the results show that the science research data of two surveys meet complete consistency when using non-sensitive scales and science researchers can integrate these science research data directly.Nevertheless, the science research data of two surveys don't meet complete consistency by using sensitive scales. Only after relevant data preprocessing could science researchers integrate these science research data and conduct related statistical analysis.
