    2011, 32(7): 9-17.
    Abstract ( 1789 )   PDF (917KB) ( 2883 )
Japanese firms have been showing different characteristics in the innovation globalization. The patents of Japanese firms are analyzed to show whether or not they are performing the international wisdom of heterogeneous complementarity in the innovation. Patents from the database of OECD triadic patent families of five Japanese firms and two benchmark American firms in addition to all patent families within area H (Electrics) are analyzed. The results show that although Japanese firms have stronger centralization tendency comparing with their America rivals in innovation, in term of application of resources seeking and capability complementary strategies, Japanese firms stand the same position with their American counterparts. The meaning is that Chinese firms should be paid much attention not only to the backword status of Japanese firms in the innovation globalization, but also to their enterprise innovative strategy in the changing trends.

    Tiang Gang, Li Nan
    2011, 32(7): 34-44.
    Abstract ( 2117 )   PDF (991KB) ( 2534 )
Based on the panel data of China's 29 regions during the period of 1991-2007, an empirical analysis on the disparity and the exogenous affecting factors of the technical efficiency of logistics industry is condncted by using a single-stage estimation procedure of the stochastic frontier production function. The results show that the overall technical efficiency is the low, and there are expanding disparities between regions; the proportion of the state-owned economy in fixed assets and government intervention impede the improvement of the efficiency, but the negative impacts are gradually decreasing; human capital and degree of openness have the positive effects on the efficiency, in the central and western regions, there is an interaction between lower human capital and degree of openness, which makes a widening gap of the efficiency between these two regions and the east region; with the implementation of west development strategy, the industrial structure has become a significantly positive affecting factor in the west region; as far as logistics development environment is concerned, the phenomenon of sunken can be found in central region; improvement of logistics has an important meaning to promote the regional coordinative development.

    Wang Deying, Liu Jianhe
    2011, 32(7): 45-52,75.
    Abstract ( 1937 )   PDF (956KB) ( 2856 )
Based on the Top Management Team(TMT) limited rationality theory, an analysis model on the relationship between top management team characteristics and corporate technological innovation is constructed. Then using a sample of 350 SMEs which have disclosed innovation expenditure in annual reports of 2007 and 2008, the relationship between top management team characteristics and corporate technological innovation is empirically tested. It is found that top management team characteristics is a core variable in technological innovation analysis; but SMEs' research differs from the former research, for example, SMEs technological innovation closely relates to top management team size, education status, tenure, and share holding status, while the relation with heterogeneity, but technical background is insignificant; the relationship between top management team characteristics and corporate technological innovation changes in different ownership enterprises and different industry enterprises.

    Jiang Ke, Lu Xianxiang
    2011, 32(7): 60-66.
    Abstract ( 3334 )   PDF (879KB) ( 3956 )
The effect of environmental regulation on three types of technological innovations in China is analyzed by using the panel data of 29 regions from the year of 1997 to 2007. The results indicate that the environmental regulation has insignificant positive effect on the technological innovation unless the environmental regulation connects with human capital, when it connects with human capital, environmental regulation can stimulate the enterprises' technological innovation in the east and the middle area of China. However, the promoting function of the environmental regulation in the west area is almost none. The factors that lead to different effects of environmental regulation on technological innovation among east, middle, and west areas are analyzed. At last, some suggestions on how to amplify the environmental regulations' positive effect on the capability improvement of regional technological innovation are provided.

The impact mechanism of consumers' cultural differences on innovation diffusion
    Chen Kun
    2011, 32(7): 67-75.
    Abstract ( 2114 )   PDF (1205KB) ( 2664 )
The forecast of Bass model parameters and innovation diffusion curve remains unanswered based on extant research. Cultural differences of different locations might lead to the fluctuation of Bass model parameters. Therefore, the hypotheses that individualism, uncertainty avoidance, power distance, and masculinity have substantial impacts on Bass model parameters and manipulate the shape of innovation curve are presented. These hypotheses are validated by measuring the consumers' cultural differences of Chengdu City and Chongqing City, and by estimating the diffusion parameters of mobile phones, soft drinks, and economical cars in there two cities. These results indicate that firms should adjust their marketing strategies according to local cultural differences when initiating new products in the market.

The upgrade effect of external technology acquisition on the domestic firms' technological capacity
Song Baoxiang, Peng Jisheng, Wang Wei
    2011, 32(7): 85-95.
    Abstract ( 1887 )   PDF (917KB) ( 2518 )
How to make use of external technology resources to improve its technological capability is the problem that domestic firms are engaged in resolving. From the process perspective, four aspects including the mode of technology acquisition, the imported technology characteristics, the firm characteristics, and the technology learning process are selected to analyze using the Suzhou manufacturing domestic firms as the sample. It is concluded that in the process of external technology acquisition, the firm's technology strategy, the learning culture and the technology learning process are critical for improving the technological capability. In all, external technology acquisition has a limited effect on the improvement of technological capability. Domestic firm's technological focus must turn to internal R&D and technological learning instead of external technology acquisition.

The spillover effects of service industry FDI with the viewpoint of technical efficiency
    He Feng
    2011, 32(7): 96-103,121.
    Abstract ( 1886 )   PDF (925KB) ( 2336 )
From the viewpoint of technical efficiency, the stochastic frontier model and the cross-province panel data in the year from 2001 to 2007 are utilized to study the spillover effect of Service Foreign Direct Investment (SFDI) in Chinese mainland. The empirical estimations not only show that average technical efficiency in the central and western region is significantly lower than that in eastern coastal regions, but also find that a significant inverse U-shape effect between technical efficiency of service industry and SFDI exists. Because the central and western region's service industry absorb few FDI and have very low technical efficiency, continuous absorbing SFDI is an available and positive way for central and western regions to improve technical efficiency of service industry. However for the technical efficiency in eastern coastal regions, the level of absorbed SFDI is beyond the optimal value in the "inverse U shape", therefore the reasonable path for improving technical efficiency in eastern coastal regions should focus on other factors rather than increasing level of SFDI.

    Zhang Pengcheng, Peng Han
    2011, 32(7): 104-112.
    Abstract ( 1922 )   PDF (963KB) ( 2720 )
Knowledge is recognized as the most important resource in the 21st century, and it has become a vital issue to understand the creation of new knowledge. Therefore, the relationships between scientific cooperation networks and knowledge creation performance are analyzed in the perspective of social networks' structural characteristics. To testify the hypotheses, 24 scientific research teams in the management field are selected, and their data of 1,494 papers published in the six-year period are collected. Then, a cooperative network model is built based on their co-authorships among 888 authors. The results indicated that cooperative networks' structural characteristics made different effects on team knowledge creation performances: (1)the number of cliques had apositive impact on knowledge creation performance; (2)the proportion of maximal sub-graphs and networks density had negative correlations with knowledge creation performance;(3) networks centrality has no relation with knowledge creation performance. Finally, the suggestions to promote knowledge creation performance of scientific cooperation teams from aspect of teams' structure are provided.

A cross-temporal meta-analysis on the relationship between transformationalleadership and employee innovation
    Huo Weiwei, Luo Jinlian
    2011, 32(7): 113-121.
    Abstract ( 2108 )   PDF (991KB) ( 2555 )
A cross-temporal meta-analysis is applied to analyze the relationship between leadership behavior and employee innovation based on present literatures. The trend of this relationship is also analyzed from the cross-cultural perspective before and after the financial crisis. The result shows that both transformational and transactional leadership have a positive effect on employee innovation and are contextually delimited; transformational leadership impacts on employee innovation quite significantly in the context of eastern culture, while transactional leadership has a stronger effect in the context of western culture; in the context of eastern culture, the effect of transactional leadership is strengthened while the effect of transformational leadership became weaker after suffering from financial crisis or facing high uncertain case. This result is different from the conclusion based on western cultural context; however it provides the empirical basis for the choice of leadership behavior in Chinese context.

    Yin Jianhua, Wang Zhaohua
    2011, 32(7): 122-129.
    Abstract ( 1983 )   PDF (1050KB) ( 3080 )
Energy consumption plays an important role in economic development. With the industrialization increasingly quickens, the conflict between energy consumption and economic growth becomes more and more prominent. The relationship between energy consumption and economic growth is one of the key issues in the economic research field. However, the research results will change with different samples, different time intervals, and different testing approaches. Based on the E-G two steps methods, the cointegration analysis and Granger causality estimation are conducted to test the relationship between China's energy consumption and economic growth based on the data in the period of 1953-2008. The results show that although some short-run fluctuation exists, there is a stable equilibrium relation between them in the long-run. In addition, the single-direction causality from energy consumption to economic growth is found.

The verification of hypothesis about environmental Kuznets Curve based on different regions in China
    Wang Qian, Gao Jun
    2011, 32(7): 157-164.
    Abstract ( 1860 )   PDF (890KB) ( 3073 )
The regional economic development in China is unbalance, which leads to the difference of Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). The hypothesis of EKC is verified by adopting the panel data of industrial wastewater emissions, industrial gas waste emissions, and industrial solid waste emissions from 30 provinces and autonomous regions during the period of 1998 to 2008. The findings indicate that the hypothesis of EKC only exists in eastern region of China, where the indicators of "industrial three wastes" have an inverted "U" shape relationship with the per capita income. The hypothesis of EKC does not exist in Middle West region of China, where the indicators of "industrial three wastes" have a "U" shape or linear relationship with the per capita income. Furthermore, from the point of view of regression results, the development speed of environment pollution in central and western area of China is faster than that in eastern region of China. The environment pollutions in eastern region of China have been improved due to Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) inflow, however there is no such an obvious sign in the Middle West region of China.
