    2010, 31(1): 26-32 .
    Abstract ( 1718 )   PDF (979KB) ( 2389 )
Abstract: The studies of the definition of resources all focus on the function of resources wherever they coming from a macro perspective or a micro perspective. Here, resources are defined as any things, tangible or intangible, that provide advantages or disadvantages for a specific main body. On the classification of resources, scholars at home and abroad put forward the two important criteria based on resource-based view. The first one involves the dimensions, such as ownership, heterogeneity, and incomplete mobility of resources. The second one is only concerned two dimensions, namely, resource itself and the relation between resources and competitive advantages. However, the limitation of the those two criteria concentrates on the impact of internal resources of firms on competitive advantages. A “3-3” model is proposed, which emphasizes on the interactive role of three major criteria, namely the visibilities, functions, and condition constraints of resources.

Effective demand scale, double demand structure, and industrial innovation ability: The evidence from Chinese equipment manufacturing industry

    Sun Xiaohua, Li Chuanjie
    2010, 31(1): 93-103 .
    Abstract ( 1736 )   PDF (1058KB) ( 2312 )
Abstract: In the implementation process of Chinese export-oriented economic development strategy, it is notable that the local industrial sectors, especially the equipment manufacturing industry, is lack of sufficient demand, thus it is very difficult to achieve a favourable cycle of industrial technology innovation. One at reasons is that foreign direct investment has a crowding-out effect on the market demand scale of local enterprises. Another reason is that the preoccupation of the division system of global value chain has made the consumers have low-end trend demand for the domestic products. Based on the transmission mechanism of the demand-driven innovation, the concept of effective demand scale is extended from the perspective of open economy, and the characteristic of double demand structure under the theoretical framework of global value chain is analyzed. Then, the conclusion that the lack of effective demand scale and the low-end trend of demand structure are the key factors to inhibit the promotion of industrial innovation capability is summarized. Granger causality test shows that there exists strict two-way causal relationship between effective demand scale and industrial innovation capability; the fixed effect model of the panel data shows that the demand structure has relatively weak impact on the technology innovation of China’s equipment manufacturing industry, because the local enterprises have been locked in the low-end value chain for such a long time that it can’t encourage the independent research and development. As a result, the policy oriented by breaking the constraints of demand factors is a fundamental way to enhance innovation capacity.

Research on the impact of university social capital on organization innovation and university performance:Based on the perspective of social network structure

    Liu Yan
    2010, 31(1): 134-146 .
    Abstract ( 1775 )   PDF (1031KB) ( 1984 )
Abstract: Based on the past literature review in the special field of social capital, a conceptual model is developed to deduce the relationship among university social capital, organization innovation, and university performance. Considering the role of organization innovation, this empirical relationship is totally explored further between the university performance and three dimensions including structure, relationship, and cognition of the university social capital setting in the internal and external social network. The conclusions are based on the sample data of 69 colleges and universities in China. With the analysis of multiple linear regressions and the effects analysis in SEM, the model is acceptable, and the result shows that the property of college and the university have positive effects on teaching and research performance, and the mediation effect of organization innovation is confirmed. Also, through the SEM, the direct effects, indirect effects, and interactive effects of those variables are found. Except most theoretically proved hypothesis, it is remarkable that the result of effect analysis shows one path how the relational dimension of the university social capital has a negative effect on the organization innovation, and demonstrates the fact that the “excessive” trust and relationship could create encumbrance. Nevertheless, the total interactive effects of three dimensions of university social capital on university performance is certainly positive. At the same time, the property, the history, and the district of college and the universities are also taken into account.

Research on an appropriability regime in open innovation: Based on intellectual property right

    Wang Ju
    2010, 31(1): 153-159 .
    Abstract ( 2030 )   PDF (1081KB) ( 2359 )
Abstract: As open innovation becomes the one of the mark for 21st century, knowledge appropriative behaviors of enterprises also change greatly, it is shifted from statically owning exclusive knowledge to dynamically getting rewards over sharing. The behavior triggers the organizational paradox, i.e. the coexistence of opportunity behaviors and cooperative benefits, as well as the disputation on the traditional Intellectual Property Right(IPR). Obviously, the emergence of new behariors needs the evolution of IPR. A concept of relational IPR is initiated, and furthermore practical examples of this new kind of IPR are provided. This research not only enriches theories about appropriability regime and knowledge governance, but also gives the strategic advices for enterprises who want to win in the open innovation.
