The relationship among network relation, internal and externalsocial capital and technical innovation
Cheng Cong, Xie Hongming, Chen Ying, Cheng Xuanmei
    2013, 34(11): 1-8.
    Abstract ( 2107 )
In reviewing the social capital theory, the paper divides the social capital in the network into the internal social capital and the external social capital, and builds up the theoretical model of "network relation-internal and external social capital-technical innovation" while conducting an empirical research based on the survey of 916 SMEs in four clusters of Zhujiang River Delta region. The results indicate that the network relation has a positive impact on the internal and external social capital and technical innovation, and the internal and external social capital play partly an intermediary role between the network relation and the technical innovation. In addition, the results propose that the firm size and R&D investment also have an impact on the relationship among the network relation, internal and external social capital and technical innovation. Finally, the theoretical contribution and practice implication are also discussed in this paper. Keywords:

Impact of network embeddedness and geographic embeddedness on the innovationperformance of the alliance enterprises—An empirical research on the high-tech listed companies in China
    Zhao Yan, Zheng Xiangjie
    2013, 34(11): 9-17.
    Abstract ( 1830 )
Supported by the resource-based view and based on the social network and relevant statistical analysis method, we built up a large-scale alliance innovation network of 10 high-tech industries in China, and studied the 420 listed companies as sample to explore the impact of network embeddedness and geographic embeddedness on their innovation performance. The results demonstrated that the centrality of the individual intermediary and the industrial network density have significant positive influences on the enterprise's innovation performance, but there is an obvious lag effect on the part of the intermediary centrality. We also found out that the geographic location of an enterprise is not related to its innovation performance, but the location has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between the network density and the innovation performance. Specifically, the influence of the network density on the enterprise's innovation performance will disappear if the enterprise is located outside the three economic circles. These conclusions will provide new scientific basis for the development of relevant industrial policies and conducting of the alliance activities

Network position, knowledge search, and innovation performance:Based on the perspective of global manufacturing network and local cluster network integration
    Hu Baoliang, Fang Gang
    2013, 34(11): 18-26.
    Abstract ( 1753 )
Based on the perspective of the integration of Global Manufacturing Network (GMN) and Local Cluster Network (LCN), the hypotheses of relationship among network position, knowledge search, and innovation performance are proposed, and these hypotheses are tested by using hierarchical multiple regressions analysis with data collected from 173 firms. The results show that the scope and depth of knowledge search play the mediative roles in the relationship between GMN position and innovation performance. The results also suggest that LCN position has a supplement effect on the GMN position, namely together with GMN position, it has a positive impact on knowledge search with GMN position; it plays a moderative role in the impact of GMN position on innovation performance through the search depth. Finally, the theoretical contributions, management implications, and research suggestions are discussed.

    Lin Jinzhi, Zheng Weimin
    2013, 34(11): 27-35.
    Abstract ( 1599 )
This paper analyzes empirically the FDI spillover effect on Chinese ICT industry during 1996-2008, and proves that FDI has promoted domestic technological innovation and that both FDI and domestic technological innovation have improved the domestic productivity. Furthermore, it conducts the mediating effect testing and finds that the mediating effect of domestic technological innovation is significant, i.e., at least part of the FDI spillover effect on domestic productivity is achieved by the promotion of FDI on the domestic technological innovation. The FDI impact on the domestic technological innovation and domestic productivity is different with the FDI participation form.

Research on the effects of intermediate goods and capital goods importson China’s export structure upgrading—A Theoretical Hypothesis and Test
    Li Qiang
    2013, 34(11): 36-41.
    Abstract ( 1840 )
Changes in domestic and international economic environment have slowed down China's exports sharply and the long-term low-end manufacturing exports have increased the export pressure, so the export upgrading becomes imminent. This paper attempts to analyze the intermediate goods and capital goods imports on China's exports upgrading from the perspective of the structure of imports. Through the establishment of theoretical models, it also proposes a theoretical hypothesis that the intermediate goods and capital goods imports have an impact on China's exports, and makes an empirical test to the hypothesis proposed by use of the import and export data for 1995-2010. The empirical results show that the imports of the capital goods and intermediate goods have a significant positive effect on the upgrading of China's exports.

Relational capital, lock-in effectiveness and enterprise innovationin the Chinese manufacturing industry
Yang Zhenning, Li Donghong, Ma Zhenzhong
    2013, 34(11): 42-52.
    Abstract ( 1849 )
Based on the theory of social capital and innovation, the processes in which the enterprises in manufacturing industry surmount the lock-in effectiveness to obtain innovation performance has drawn attention widely. This research inspected in detail the relational capital utilization of enterprises in the manufacturing industry as well as the moderator effect mechanism of different types of technical strategy choices for the innovation performance under the lock-in effectiveness. The related results indicated that four kinds of technical lock-in effectiveness obviously suppresses the enterprises in manufacturing industry to gain the innovation performance, surmounts different types of lock-in effectiveness using the business relational capital and the political relational capital and helps enterprises to promote the innovation performance. Moreover, in the current times of Chinese economic reform, the imitative following strategy is more suitable to the Chinese enterprises compared to the technological leadership strategy; the correct technological strategy choice may also hedge the impacts of the lock-in effectiveness to promote the enterprises' innovation performance. This research's related conclusion has certain referential value to the further theoretical research of the government and the enterprises' management practice.

Independent R&D, technology import and high-tech industry growth
    Chu Deyin, Zhang Tongbin
    2013, 34(11): 53-60,113.
    Abstract ( 2005 )
This paper analyzed the long-term equilibrium and short-term fluctuation of the high-tech industry under the influence of the independent R&D and the technology import based on the co-integration and error correction model in the form of panel data. The results indicate that the expenditure on the independent R&D has a significant positive influence on the growth of the high-tech industry in the short- and long-terms. The time interval of the impact of the expenditure on the technology import on the growth of the high-tech industry shortens gradually while its promoting effects to the output of the high-tech enterprises appear in the long run. Moreover, this paper studied the dynamic change path of the high-tech industry output under the impact of the independent R&D and the technology import by use of the impulse response function based on the structural vector auto-regression model (SVAR) in three cases: the entire high-tech industry, the large-size high-tech enterprises and the medium-sized high-tech enterprises. Seen from the fluctuation degree, the medium-sized high-tech enterprises have experienced the largest fluctuation after receiving the impacts from the independent R&D and technology import while the large-size high-tech enterprises and the entire high-tech industry rank the second and the third in fluctuation respectively.

Research on the validity of policy implementation process of awarded points forminority candidates in national college entrance examination
    Wu Cinan
    2013, 34(11): 61-68,160.
    Abstract ( 2034 )
The policy of awarded points for minority candidates in the national college entrance examination is a policy for the care of the national identityofminority candidates. But due to lack of analysis on the validity of the policy implementation process, the effects of the policy are not obvious to increase higher education opportunities for the minorities. In this paper, by analyzing and comparing the results of scores and awarded points policy between minority candidates and Hancandidates in Guizhou Province, the following findings may be drawn out: (1) Achievement gap between minority candidates and Hancandidates in Guizhouis an objective reality and the disparity is more obvious among ruralcandidates;(2) The gap of minority candidates in examining subjects presents cultural selective features; (3) The awarded points policy and the pre-education policy is very effective to compensate for minority candidates. The future reform on the national college entrance examination should reasonably take different measures for urban and rural minority candidates and assessfully the awarded pints policy for minority candidates. The reform on examining subjects should take full account of the cultural attributes of the curriculum, which means the different candidate groups on the selection of subjects are different. The paper also presents some basic data to achievea relatively faireffortamong different nationalities in the national college entrance examination.

The effect of relationship fairness on relationship commitment in strategic alliance—The mediating role of inter-firm trust
Wu Zhiwei, Chen Ying, Wu Yizhen
    2013, 34(11): 69-77.
    Abstract ( 2060 )
By establishing the mediator model, this paper studies the impact of the inter-firm relationship fairness on the relationship commitment and examines the inter-firm trust as a mediator. In the paper, a hierarchical regression analysis is made to the data collected in the form of scale from 230 enterprises in Jiangsu as a research model. The results show an existed influence between the relationship fairness and the commitment. The distributive fairness could promote the affective commitment directly, and bring in an indirect effect on the affective commitment through the ability trust at the same time;the procedural fairness mainly affects the affective commitment through the mediator variable of the ability trust; and the interaction fairness could reduce the level of the calculative commitment, while it has an indirect influence on the calculative commitment through enhancing the level of benevolent trust. Finally, the managerial suggestions are also provided in the paper.

Li Suicheng, Li Bo, Zhang Yantao
    2013, 34(11): 103-113.
    Abstract ( 1956 )
From the supplier network perspective, this paper analyzes the impacts of the supplier innovation and the network capability on the manufacturer product innovation performance, and studies mainly the moderating effect of the supplier networks structure on such relationship. By conducting an empirical research to 285 valid samples, we found out that the supplier innovativeness and network capability affect positively the product innovation performance. The study also shows that the manufacturer centrelization and the supplier network linking strength have a positive moderating effect on the supplier innovation and the product innovation performance link; the supplier network link density have a negative moderating effect on the supplier innovation and the product innovation performance link;the manufacturer centralization, the supplier network link strength and the supplier network internal difference have a positive moderating effect on the network capability and the product innovation performance link; and the supplier network link density have a negative moderating effect on the network capability and the product innovation performance link. The results suggest that the supplier innovation and the network capability both improve the manufacturer product innovation while the suitable network structure promotes this effect.

Studies on Signaling and screening functions of S&T research performancein academic promotion decision
    Li Rong
    2013, 34(11): 114-123.
    Abstract ( 1723 )
With the unverifiable setting of academic quality, whether or not scientists with different academic quality of research performance can be separated efficiently and academic innovation is promoted by performance-based academic promotion is an important reflection of the validity of the academic evaluation system. Based on the theory of information asymmetry, this paper analyzes the effect of unverifiable characteristics of research performance on the academic promotion decision. Furthermore, using framework of signaling theory as well as probit model, the author investigates the effectiveness of research performance to screen scientists with different academic ability and intrinsic motivation of innovation by sampling senior faculty members from public agricultural research institutions. The results of both theoretical and econometrical research show that academic quality of research performance does not fit the criteria considered in the promotion due to its unverifiability; research performance is no more than the scientists' signal of being promoted instead of the references to their academic ability and intrinsic motivation of innovation for underlying academic promotion systems in our country.

Comparative analysis of the effect of international trade on China’s CO2 emission before and after joining WTO
Zou Qing, Chen Xun, Lv Junna
    2013, 34(11): 137-146.
    Abstract ( 1693 )
In order to calculate the differences of international trade's impact on CO2 emission before and after joining WTO and test the Factor Endowment Hypothesis and the Pollution Haven Hypothesis, this paper uses 29 provinces' panel data from 1995 to 2010 to do the 3SLS estimation by establishing the simultaneous equation model and introducing the dummy variables. The test results indicate that: (1) before and after joining WTO, the scale, structure and technical effects of international trade on CO2 emission have significant differences; (2) the total effect elastic coefficient of international trade on CO2 emission has increased after joining WTO, which has led to further deterioration of the environment; and (3) the two hypotheses have both passed the tests, but as the environmental regulation plays a leading role, the structure effect has a negative impact on the environment.

Research on interaction between input and output of university humanitiessocial sciences based on the PVAR model
    Yu Liping, Peng Changsheng
    2013, 34(11): 147-153.
    Abstract ( 1681 )
After evaluating the S&T output based on the TOPSIS, this paper obtains the only output variable and analyzes the interaction between the S&T input and output based on the panel data and the panel vector auto-regression model. The results show the obvious interaction between the input and output in Chinese universities, which forms a benign positive feedback effect. There exist bidirectional granger causalities among the scientific research funds, the research and development staff full-time equivalent and the scientific research output. The scientific research personnel number is the granger cause of scientific research output, and the research output is the granger cause of the scientific research personnel number only in the next lag stage. Whether the impulse response function or the variance decomposition, each variable except for itself is the biggest influence to the scientific research output, indicating that there is a great interaction between the scientific research output and the input. The scientific and technical personnel number makes the largest contribution to the scientific and technical output, the research and development personnel full-time equivalent is the second contribution and the scientific research funds is the third. Finally, this paper analyzes the reason for such contributions.
