Regional R&D coalition and economic growth pattern transformation

    Yang Yu1, 2, Zhang Zongqing1, Hu Hanhui1, 2
    2010, 31(5): 1-10 .
    Abstract ( 1686 )   PDF (2127KB) ( 2531 )
Abstract: With the introduction of regional R&D coalition into an endogenous growth model, the connection between regional R&D coalition and economic growth pattern transformation has been explored. A theoretical study indicates that the transforming toward an innovation-driven growth could be accomplished in advance by the establishment of regional R&D coalition. Although indigenous innovation would slow down the growth when the level of knowledge stock is relatively low; after a certain level of knowledge stock, indigenous innovation would become the engine for the economic growth. When the level of knowledge stock is insufficient for maintaining innovation-driven growth, the regional R&D coalition could act as a carrier for indigenous innovation, the coalition would expedite the transform of economic growth pattern by regional cooperation, exert respective advantages, enhance innovation capabilities, and improve innovation performance. The hypothesis has also been tested by an empirical analysis with the data collected from textile industry in Yangtze River Delta.

    Su Xiaohua1, Zhang Shujun2

    2010, 31(5): 27-34 .
    Abstract ( 1526 )   PDF (978KB) ( 2757 )
Abstract: From angle of on the resource-based view, the issue of control embedded in the Chinese-foreign IJVs is examined. The arguement that the relative controlling power of IJV participants largely depends on the resources, especially the key resources committed by either party and the control status by nature is highly dynamic is proposed. The dynamic evolution of IJV control is mainly derived from the learning capacity. Only through consistent learning and subsequent innovation, IJV participant could strengthen the access and control of critical resources, and therefore move the allocation of IJV control pattern toward the desired direction. The framework is also applied to analyze a series of IJVs established by Danone. Managerial implications are discussed based on a comprehensive examination of the evolutionary control pattern of IJVs with the participation of Danone.

    2010, 31(5): 54-60 .
    Abstract ( 1687 )   PDF (1056KB) ( 2573 )
Abstract: Entrepreneurial motivation, opportunities and resources are important factors in the entrepreneurship process. But the research on the relationship among them is seldom if ever. Here, the entrepreneurial motivation is divided into two types:active or passive motivation; entrepreneurial opportunity is also divided into two types: innovative or equilibrium opportunity. Technology, financial capital, and human capital are important resources for the high-tech entrepreneurship. Therefore three kinds of initial resource driving models are defined: technology driving, financial capital driving, and human capital driving model. The associations between entrepreneurial motivation, opportunity, and resource in China are examined. Data used in this research come from interviews and valid questionnaires of 371 entrepreneurs of high-tech start ups in Changchun city of China and an AMOS model is employed to analyze the data. Empirical results indicate that there is a close relationship among them.

    2010, 31(5): 102-107 .
    Abstract ( 1624 )   PDF (1841KB) ( 1986 )
Abstract: According to the characteristics of decision-making of technology innovation projects, an integrated decision analysis method is proposed which is called Fuzzy Hierarchical Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FH-TOPSIS). Firstly, based on synthetically considering two main factors, risks and benefits, the index system is established for the evaluation of technology innovation projects. Secondly, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the TOPSIS method are integrated to evaluate projects. At last, an application example demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of the method FH-TOPSIS. The evaluation method FH-TOPSIS not only absorbs advantages of AHP and TOPSIS, but also is able to conduct sensitivity analysis about weights of criteria. The proposed method provides a new way to analyze the risks and benefits for technology innovation projects.

Research on the model of buffer design based on DBR for remanufacturing system
    Chen Weida, Lin Jingjing
    2010, 31(5): 108-115 .
    Abstract ( 1717 )   PDF (1777KB) ( 2145 )
Abstract: Drum-Buffer-Ropel(DBR) approach is the management tool for the TOC applied to a production system. The size of the buffers in DBR has a great impact on the lead time and system throughput, thus ultimately affects the competitive edge of products. In a remanufacturing system, there are some uncertainties that influence the whole system throughput. Considering the effects of machine failure rate, the maintenance rate, and the uncertainty of the recovery products’ quality, based on the DBR theory, a complete remanufacturing buffer model control mechanism is established to solve the uncertainties existing in the remanufacturing system. Finally, a calculated example proves that three kinds of buffer designed by the method can effectively arrange the production planning and improve the resource utilization of the bottleneck operation.

Cluster factor endowment, spatial relationship among industry clusters, and cluster growth ——An empirical evidence of 54 STDZs

    Wang Guoxin
    2010, 31(5): 131-140 .
    Abstract ( 1729 )   PDF (1008KB) ( 2171 )
Abstract:When studying the growth mechanism of industry clusters, most researchers put their emphasis on the inner factors. Here, the angle of vision for the reseach is expended to the spatial relationship among industry clusters and an analytic framework for the study of cluster growth is established based on the factor endowment and spatial relationship. The data of three years from 54 state-level Science and Technology Development Zones (STDZs) in China were analyzed and some instructive conclusions were drawn as follows: In addition to the human resource capital, endowment of cluster factors plays a crucial role for promoting cluster growth. Spatial relationship makes an essential contribution to the cluster growth. Cluster density, geographic proximity, and industry overlap among clusters can cause an inverted U-shaped growth pattern. Following these conclusions, some policy suggestions were put forward regarding STDZ establishment, location selection, industry positioning, and internal construction and management.

Abstract: Knowledge as the core resources of universities has become an important factor for university’s sustainable development. By taking the local universities as the example, the characteristics of local university’s knowledge are studied, and the endogenesis process and epitaxial diffusion process about local university teachers’ knowledge diffusion are put forward. On the basis of the theory, the models of local university’s knowledge diffusion are proposed. The questionnaire survey is used to investigate the scores of the factors that influenced the knowledge internalization and externalization in the model. And by using the factor analysis, seven general effects are refined: the knowledge body, the school conditions, the ability and quality of teachers, the knowledge receiver, the knowledge value, the society effects, and the transmission path. The data analysis on road map shows that the knowledge value slightly affects the knowledge diffusion and increment, but the other six factors significant positively correlate with it.In accordance with these results, the political proposals involving the local universities construction are given in order to provide theoritical evidences for universities’ management decision and teachers’ knowledge acquisition and sharing.
