    2008, 29(3): 89-97 .
    Abstract ( 2001 )   PDF (1577KB) ( 2132 )
Based on Resource Based View(RBV) and the theory about acceleration trap in R&D, the relationship between applied patents, including invention, utility model, design, and subsequent on the company performance are studied. Patent application data from 1999 to 2005 and the financial data from 1999 to 2006 in 111 Chinese listed mechanical manufacturing companies are used to perform regression analyses. The results reveal a invert-U relationship between the number of applied patents for invention, for utility model and subsequent on the operating profit and also a invert-U relationship between the number of applied patents for utility model, for design and subsequent on the operating income, which mean that if the patent output level is too high , company performance will be deteriorated rather than be further improved, in other words, acceleration trap does exist in Chinese listed companies’ patent R&D activity. The instructive significance of the research is to promote correct patent R&D plan and improve R&D output efficiency.

An empirical study on the relationship between patents and science and technology inputs based on the cross-section data of Chinese provinces
    Wu Hecheng
    2008, 29(3): 98-104 .
    Abstract ( 1828 )   PDF (914KB) ( 1998 )
The relationship between patents and science and technology input is studied. Based on the cross-section data of Chinese provinces from 2001 to 2005, it is found that there is a strong linear relationship between the patent and the two factors that are the proportion of science and technology expenses in GDP and the number of scientific and technological personnel, and a regression model that explanatory variables are the proportion of science and technology expenses in GDP and the number of scientific and technological personnel, and variable explained is patent is establised. Using this regression equation, the impact of the proportion of science and technology expenses in GDP and the number of scientific and technological personnel on the patent is estimated, it could be better indicated the relationship between the patent as a important innovation product and the factors of science and technology input. Most of the research articles only discussed the impact of science and technology expenses on the patent. In the contrary, two factors of the expenditure and the personnel in the analysis process are considered, it is more consistent with the actual situation.

    2008, 29(3): 109-113 .
    Abstract ( 1940 )   PDF (969KB) ( 2479 )
Compound option is different from the simple option. It is option’s option. In realities, a lot of technologyproject invest by phases to avoid the risk. Then every stage includes many choices, these choices can be called options. Since the values of option interact with each other, so that the option should be called a compound option. A technology project model is set up based on a compound option. And a real example is used to introduce how to evaluate project with compound option. It is found that the evaluation of technologyproject which invest by phases with the compound option is better for discovering the real value of project, and is good for the scientific management of the project.
