    2016, 37(7): 1-7.
    Abstract ( 1117 )
In the 10th anniversary of open innovation, this paper reveals the future development of open innovation from the perspective of big data. Firstly, by analyzing the characteristics of Big Data from the dynamic perspective, this paper concludes the feature of “4C”. Based on this, the paper exposes the challenges of big data to open innovation from the angle of knowledge, market, management and customer. And then this paper dissects the impact of big data on open innovation from three perspectives, which include constitution of open innovation, innovation space and business model. By summarizing the future development of open innovation from five aspects, this paper gets the following five conclusions: (1) paying more attention to strategic benefits, (2) spreading gradually to non-stakeholders, (3) emphasizing stably on the abilities based on data, (4) evolving slowly into couple-model, and (5) becoming popular. Finally, this paper gives some advice from three aspects, including methods, procedures and level, which is constructive to exploring open innovation deeply in the era of big data.

The effect of venture capital on high-tech firms’ trademark activities
    Zhang Weidong, Zhang Chunxiang
    2016, 37(7): 8-16.
    Abstract ( 975 )
As for high-tech firms, trademarking, which is related with firms’ brand strategy and innovative ability, is one critical factor influencing their success. This paper aims to study whether the access to venture capital (VC) has an effect on firms’ trademarking activities. Based on related theories, this paper proposes two hypotheses: influences of the access to VC on the propensity to register trademarks and on the market scope of trademarks respectively. The empirical data contains 192 firms operating in the UK micro and nanotechnology sector. Considering the dummy variable nature of the propensity to register trademarks, this paper chooses a Logit model to do the regression analysis. As for the market scope of trademarks, given its count variable nature, a negative binormial model and a Poisson model are chosen to deal with the data. The regression results indicate that VC funding has a positive effect on the propensity to register trademarks, as well as on the market scope of trademarks. Therefore, the government should encourage the development of VC, and encourage VC going to high-tech firms so as to forter their trademarking consciousness.

Research on the influence of R&D Investment on Firms' Performance --base on the perspectives of investment intensity and patent protection institution
    2016, 37(7): 47-53.
    Abstract ( 942 )
Using Chinese industrial firms data from the National Bureau of statistics this paper analyzes the influence of R&D investment on the firm performance. The results show: (1) R&D investment has an inverted U-shaped influence on firm performance, this relationship is deeper in firms with high level of human capital; (2) patent application and authorization strengthen the positive role of R&D investment on firm' performance; (3) when the institution environment is weaker, the R&D investment is harmful to firm' performance, and this effect is more pronounced in non-state-owned firms. This paper extends the theoretical framework for the study of R&D investment economic consequences from the four aspects of investment intensity, innovation behavior and institutional environment, and provides implications for the government .

A research on the relationship between unrelated diversification and firm’s innovation investment in China
    2016, 37(7): 62-70.
    Abstract ( 1092 )
Some of the academic researchers at home and abroad finds out that the diversification strategy used in the firm especially the unrelated-diversification is harmful to the performance and core competence of firms. But in the age of rapid technology change, the traditional resources-based theory of core competency faces a strong challenge. Insisting on core competency will make the firm trapped in organizational inertia. The unrelated diversification strategy means firms will enter a new industry and invest R&D on new technology. Unrelated-diversification strategy will help firms to develop a dynamic capability to adapt to the changing environment. This paper analyzes the internal process how firms’ diversification strategy influences their R&D investment through literature reviews. The enforcement of unrelated strategy will enlarge the size of firms and then change their R&D inputs decision. The multi-division structure of unrelated diversified firms means that the product division manager will be guided by short-run financial goals and then the firms’ R&D investment decision will be influenced. The diversified firm has more information advantage to use internal capital market to develop new products than that in the outside capital market. The unrelated-diversification strategy can help the firm to develop its dynamic capability to adapt to the highly changing environment through investment on new technology different from the old industry. This paper finds that unrelated diversification strategy used in Chinese firms has significantly increased the R&D expenditure based on the empirical analysis using the data collected by World Bank which investigated 12400 Chinese firms. The regression analysis is based on the interval of “the degree of diversification”. More than 90% of the sample Chinese firms’  degree of unrelated diversification is less than 5%, the coefficient between the degree of unrelated diversification and firm’s R&D expenditure are significantly positive in the interval from 0 to 5%. This means that most of the Chinese firms have only use low-level of unrelated diversification strategy because they try to avoid the high risk to make a huge investment on an unfamiliar product. As a new industry has no relation to the existing field where the firm is located, there is no synergy effect between existing technology and new technology. The firms have to invest more on R&D at the beginning when it comes to the new industry. And the sign of coefficient is negative but there is no significant relationship when the degree of unrelated diversification is more than 5%. I also find that the history of firms and its ratio of the number of the college educated employees to the whole employees can represent the firm’s technology opportunity in the industry where the firm is located, and both these two factors can significantly increase the firm’s R&D inputs while the short-time financial bonus for CEO reduces the firm’s R&D input. The empirical analysis of this paper based on the institution attribute of the firms finds out that for both state-owned firms and non-state-owned firms in china, the unrelated diversification strategy increases the firm’s R&D inputs. The positive influence on R&D inputs in non-state-owned firms is a little stronger than in state-owned firms. The state-owned firms have more interest on both the unrelated diversification strategy and the R&D investment than the non-state-owned firms. The negative influence on R&D input from the short-term financial incentives for CEO are stronger in state-owned firms than that in non-state-owned firms; the history of firms can increase the R&D inputs for the non-state-owned firms. The debt ratio, profit rate, uncertainty of profitability has a significant positive relationship with R&D investment for state-owned firms. The technology opportunity of the industry can promote the R&D investments for both kinds of firms.

Technological spillover effects of high-tech industries on service firms
    Qu Wan, Feng Haihong
    2016, 37(7): 71-80.
    Abstract ( 821 )
Based on the R&D spillover model and with the consideration of time lag, this paper verifies the effects of technology innovation in high-tech industries on service firms, by use of the panel data of 30 provinces in the year 2004-2012. According to the empirical research, the patents in force of High-tech industries play the most significant role in the development of services with a time lag of 2 years. Besides, indirect input of R&D funds also has a significant effect on services with a time lag of 3 years. However, the effect of new product sales of High-tech industries on services is very weak or even insignificant. The result shows a significant spillover effect of high-tech industries on service firms, which promote the innovative progress of services by means of improving the productivity and technology capacity in service firms.

    2016, 37(7): 107-116.
    Abstract ( 1259 )
Paternalistic leadership (PL) is an emerging topic in the field of leadership and organization behavior, and its application, explanation, and effect are worth investigating. From the perspectives of knowledge management, we proposed a multi-level conceptual model. We explored the content and structure of PL in the context of university organization and revised PL’s scales through 80 scientific research teams (SRTs) data from universities in Beijing and Guangdong. Then, we chose 342 SRTs, which are granted by China Ministry of Education, to investigate with our questionnaires. The study results show that there is PL behavior with SRT leader, but the contents and constructure are different with conclusion in the context of enterprise. SRT leader’s benevolent, moral, and authoritarian leadership have different effect paths on team team-level innovation performance via the mediating variables of knowledge sharing and integration.

A quantitative study on the impact of postdoctoral experience to Chinese scientists' career development
    2016, 37(7): 117-125.
    Abstract ( 1000 )
This study is interested in the impact of postdoctoral experience to career development of researchers in two disciplines, Immunology and Management Science and Engineering. This is the first time that Chinese researchers are considered for such studies. We collected the CV(Curriculum Vitae) data of samples via the internet and studied the impact of different factors through survival analysis method. Especially we focused on the role of postdoctoral experience on the career development of researcher in different disciplines. Kaplan-Meier analyses indicated that researchers who have the postdoctoral experience have higher risk on getting the position of associate professor in the Immunology discipline, indicating a shorter time from assistant professor to associate professor. However, opposite results are discovered in Management Science and Engineering discipline. In additional, COX proportional hazard analyses indicated that these factors such as gender, institution, and country of doctor degree are significance to the career development in the Immunology discipline. In the Management Science and Engineer discipline, other factors such as the reputation of institution and mobility are significance to the career development. Lastly, we analyzed and discussed probable reasons for such phenomena.

Growth features and industry differences of total factor productivity in China’s bio-agriculture
    Ji Kaiwen
    2016, 37(7): 145-153.
    Abstract ( 962 )
Taking listed companies as sample and using three stage DEA-Malmquist index model which considers environmental factors, this paper makes empirical analysis on the real growth features and industry differences of total factor productivity in China’s bio-agriculture. The results show that rapid expansion of macro economy, increase of government subsidies and excessive concentration of ownership structure, are not conducive to improve total factor productivity; growth of total factor productivity is more significant which driven mainly by technical efficiency and technical level is backward after eliminating influence of environmental variables and random errors; sample differences of total factor productivity growth is obvious, development of various sub-sectors is relatively balanced, but development of internal sub-sector is uneven. Therefore, government should optimize external environment, promote technological innovation, and strengthen classification guidance in order to improve total factor productivity of bio-agriculture more effectively.

An analysis of financial market risk spillover and the environment of interest rate marketization
    Qian Yihe,Jin Xuejun
    2016, 37(7): 154-160.
    Abstract ( 782 )
The effectiveness and stability of financial market is the necessary condition to realize the marketization of interest rate, which reflects the ability of financial market to reflect and filter all kinds of information. One important type of information is the interaction between different markets, also known as risk spillover.Under the back ground of the global financial market integration, this type of information is particularly prominent. China is in a critical period of market-oriented interest rate reform. It has practical significance to study the Risk Spillover Effect between different markets at home and abroad, and grasp the mature degree of the domestic financial market. In this paper, A MGARCH model was used to study the sample of 7 markets between China and the United States from August 2005 to August 2012.We found that the effectiveness of the domestic market gradually increased during the sample period, but the ability to resist the risk of the U.S. market has not yet been reflected. As consequence, our suggestion is that it should be prudent on the opening of the domestic market.
