Technological Innovation, Political Connections and Government Innovation Support: Mechanism and Path

Abstract: The exploration how enterprises attain government innovation support may be the way to solve the conflict on the question whether government innovation support boost enterprises’ innovation. Based on questionnaires conducted by 173 enterprises in Guangdong China, the relationship between politics association innovation and government innovation support was studied. The results showed that: Though enterprise innovation can be attained via political association, such mechanism is only effective at good institutional environment or in non-state-owned enterprises. Under all kinds of contexts, the construction of political association is the most important direct pathway for enterprises to attain government innovation support.
