Industrial Cluster Upgrading Based on Strategic Entrepreneurship of Leading Commercial Platform Enterprise : Case Study of Haining County Leather Cluster

Abstract: This paper discusses the driving functions and mechanisms for industrial cluster’s upgrading of a special kind of leading service firm using the theory of strategic entrepreneurship, two-sided platform and case study . It suggests that the commercial platform can upgrade the trading network through platform sophistication and internationalization, R&D envelope and shaping cluster’s brand culture based on indirect network effects, which results in its own competitive advantage and wealth creation maximization, while changing the existing industrial architecture , creating a new architectural base to encourage independent innovation and brand establishment, also the upgrading dynamic as well. By introducing service-oriented leading firm and consumers’ upgrading into research , this study enriches not only associated theory construction , but also supplies new policy ideas for local government to promote industrial clusters' upgrading.
