The impact factors for adopting RFID technology in Chinese enterprises
    Chen Xiaohong, Wang Fuqiang
    2013, (2): 1-9.
    Abstract ( 2499 )   PDF (1270KB) ( 2774 )
Since Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is an information technology bringing tremendous values to the enterprises, what kinds of factors impact the RFID adoption for Chinese enterprises becomes an important research question. Based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), combining with the features of RFID, a RFID adoption model which integrates three aspect factors, that is, the technology, organization and institution, and external environment is established. The empirical research shows that the application level of RFID in Chinese enterprises is still very low. The usefulness perception, ease use perception, coercive pressure, mutual trust between partners, and customer concern for privacy have significant impacts on the behavioral intentions of enterprises to adopt RFID. Moreover, the ease use perception and the support from senior managers also indirectly impact on the behavioral intentions to adopt RFID according to usefulness perception. However, the impacts of senior manager support, information systems infrastructure, normative pressure, and mimetic pressure on the behavioral intentions of enterprises to adopt RFID are insignificant.

    Abstract ( 2360 )   PDF (1136KB) ( 2132 )
Understanding and holding the development tendencies and characteristics of technology innovation for Innovation-oriented Enterprises (IoEs) is an important precondition for adjusting and making innovation policies. A full sample questionnaire investigation on excellent technology innovation projects successfully finished by state-level IoEs is carried out based on object approach. Then the tendencies and characteristics of technology innovation for IoEs are analyzed in terms of innovation motivation, type, novelty, expenditure, impact, and effect of firms. Some important conclusions that technology innovation activity of IoEs is mainly driven by market demand; the main innovative type is new product; first important target of technology innovation for firms is to develop a new product; the innovative novelty of most IoEs is new on international market, as well as a distribution regularity of the expenditure quota for all kinds of innovative projects in IoEs are found. What’s more, it is also found that IoEs in some industries are not susceptible to the innovative policy, while others are more susceptible. Based on that, some suggestions for making and adjusting innovation policies are put forwards.

    2013, (2): 44-51.
    Abstract ( 2126 )   PDF (981KB) ( 2636 )
Theory analysis suggests that firm performance is positively related to advertising expenditure and R&D expenditure, and the relationship is influenced by corporate size and controlling shareholders. Based on a sample of Chinese listed corporations, empirical results show that the relationship between R&D expenditure and firm performance is statistically significant positive, however the relationship between advertising expenditure and firm performance is statistically insignificant. In terms of corporate size, the significantly positive relationship between R&D expenditure and firm performance exists only in small firms, and for the big firms, advertising expenditure is significantly positive related to firm performance. In terms of controlling shareholders, the relationship between R&D expenditure and firm performance is significantly positive for the firms without a controlling shareholder; and the relationship between advertising expenditure and firm performance is significantly positive for the firms with a controlling shareholder. These conclusions are further confirmed by robust test.

Cluster innovation network cooperation degree, network openness, and cluster incremental performance with the environmental uncertainty
    Wang Song, Sheng Ya
    2013, (2): 52-61.
    Abstract ( 1888 )   PDF (1008KB) ( 2538 )
Under the circumstance of open innovation and dynamic innovation, the cluster innovation network is constantly influenced by external factors. It means that it is able to understand the network by exploring those factors not only inside the network, but also outside the network. Those internal factors is generalized as network cooperation degree and external factors is generalized as network openness, furthermore the relative effects of network operation and openness on the cluster performance are moderated by the environment uncertainty. Firstly, three regional clusters are explored respectively and the relative relationships between network cooperation degree, openness, and the cluster performance, the relationship between network cooperation degree and openness, and the effects of environment uncertainty on these relationships are presented. It is found the positive effect of network openness on the cluster performance tends to increase as the technology environmental uncertainty increases, while the positive effect of network cooperation degree on the cluster performance tends to increase as the market competition environmental uncertainty increases. While both market and technology environment keep relatively stable, the network cooperation degree makes a significant effect on the cluster performance. The correlation between network cooperation degree and network openness is insignificant. By comparing the three clusters, it suggests the role of network cooperation degree and network openness must be considered differently according to the environmental uncertainty. Finally, the management and policy implications of the research are analyzed.

Chen Xihong, Zhang Zongyi, Kang Jijun, Li Changqing
    2013, (2): 62-68.
    Abstract ( 1892 )   PDF (984KB) ( 2293 )
Based on the panel data from 30 provinces in China during the period of 2000-2010, from the angle of view of the new economic geography, the space variable is introduced and the panel model is employed to estimate the impact of technological spatial spillover on society-wide energy efficiency. It concludes that society-wide energy efficiency has the nature of spatial dependence; and the echelon spillover of FDI from east region to middle region then west region had a positive effect on society-wide energy efficiency, and domestic technology transfer and R&D personnel are able to promote society-wide energy efficiency of the west region. Therefore, as far as energy saving technology concern, it should be mainly based on foreign direct investment in the east region, but domestic technology transfer should have priority in central and western regions. Moreover, after considering the technological spatial spillover, there is still spatial lag between east region and west region. It is indicated that other definite overflow factors are presented and further study is needed.

    Liang Jun, Zhou Yang
    2013, (2): 89-96.
    Abstract ( 1917 )   PDF (920KB) ( 2744 )
By conducting differences-in-differences model analysis, whether or not the practice of GEM might improve enterprise innovation is explored. The evaluation index system of enterprise innovation is first constructed, and the data from 51 SMEs and GEM board listed corporations from the year of 2008 to 2010 are collected. The results indicate that the launch of the GEM is unable to significantly lead on to the enterprise innovation and it even has the negative influence in a short term. However, along with the operation and adjustment, the GEM market will turn back to rationality gradually and in turn has an increasing positive influence on enterprise innovation. Thus, it is suggested that the GEM should be treated positively. While constructing the systems of perfect suspension, delisting, transfer boards, and other related institutions, the service target of GEM should be further identified and highlighted. Therefore, it is important to dispel all kinds of misgivings, increase the listed resources, and serve the small and mid-sized innovation enterprises that are at the initial stage of pioneering, so as to ensure the full development of GEM potential function for enhancing enterprise innovation.

    2013, (2): 105-111,151.
    Abstract ( 2094 )   PDF (1654KB) ( 2666 )
Based on direction distance function with Sequential Malmquist-Luenberger (SML) index and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) respectively, the green productivity and abatement cost for the industry in China from the year of 1995 to 2009 are estimated. Then the effect factors of deduction performance and abatement cost with their industrial differences are discussed by a panel data estimation model. The results show that green productivity has declined after increased at the beginning and is driven by the progress in green technology. Abatement cost presents a fluctuant increase trend and is quite high in the industry with low carbon emissions intensity. Green productivity promotes deduction performance increase, the progress in green technology has the most effect on the deduction of the industry with low carbon emissions intensity, and green technical efficiency has the most impact on the industry with high carbon emissions intensity. Green productivity has insignificant effect on abatement cost. Energy consumption structure optimization is able to play a great role in abatement cost reduction in the industry with high carbon emissions intensity, and labor capital replacement is able to facilitate abatement cost reduction in the industry with low carbon emissions intensity.

The technological resources allocation for high-tech industry development
    Wang Langfeng, Fu Yulin
    2013, (2): 152-160.
    Abstract ( 2018 )   PDF (1000KB) ( 2817 )
Technological resources are a material base for making technology progress; however there are few researches on correlative relationship between technological resources allocation and industrial development. Hence, by using stochastic frontier model, the general effects and phase characteristics involving the impact of technological resources allocation and relative institutions on high-tech industrial development are tested. The result shows that by adjusting the output efficiency changes of production factors, technological resources are able to impact the development of high-tech industry, furthermore, the effect shows stronger differences and phrasal features. The results display the implications as follows: adjusting allocation of technological resource rather than simply increasing input of technological resources; allocating technological resource properly needs to tradeoff the effects between direct and indirect, short-term and long-term, respectively; fostering innovative mechanism by optimizing innovative institution and not by purely encouraging innovative behaviors. Comparing with previous literatures, it provides the reference for the allocation of all kinds of technological resources.
