Abstract: Based on the panel data from 30 provinces in China during the period of 2000-2010, from the angle of view of the new economic geography, the space variable is introduced and the panel model is employed to estimate the impact of technological spatial spillover on society-wide energy efficiency. It concludes that society-wide energy efficiency has the nature of spatial dependence; and the echelon spillover of FDI from east region to middle region then west region had a positive effect on society-wide energy efficiency, and domestic technology transfer and R&D personnel are able to promote society-wide energy efficiency of the west region. Therefore, as far as energy saving technology concern, it should be mainly based on foreign direct investment in the east region, but domestic technology transfer should have priority in central and western regions. Moreover, after considering the technological spatial spillover, there is still spatial lag between east region and west region. It is indicated that other definite overflow factors are presented and further study is needed.
