The factors affecting the partnership development between universities and communities in America

Abstract

American research-typed universities not only are confirmed as the innovation fountainhead of advanced knowledge, but also have become the thought and the technical fountainhead of the city question solution and the development. This kind of unique function is established on the partner relation between universities and the communities with an interaction pattern. Based on the theoretical foundation between universities and communities partnership, the University of Pennsylvania is selected as a study case. The keys to success are serving the community, including the core idea for setting up a school and strategic positioning, the governance structure taking other side as the center, and diversified community cooperation pattern. The conclusion provides the reference for constructing the interaction mode between urban communities and universities, as well as realizing innovations between universities and community partnership in China.
