    2013, (6): 9-16.
    Abstract ( 1834 )   PDF (1009KB) ( 2684 )
Innovation and knowledge accumulation are the important factors to promote technological progress and economic growth. The knowledge production function characterizes the relationship between R&D inputs and outputs. With the framework of the knowledge production function, the knowledge stock influence of local and the rest regions is considered. By using both spatial lag model and spatial error model, a regression analysis on the knowledge spillovers of interregional innovation behaviors for the 31 provinces in China is conducted. The results indicate that firstly, R&D expenditures have a significant positive effect on the regional knowledge production; meanwhile the relation between R&D personnel full time equivalent and knowledge production is insignificant. Secondly, the relation between knowledge stock and regional knowledge production is significant. Local knowledge stock has a positive effect on knowledge production; however other regions’ knowledge stock has a negative effect. Thirdly, regional innovation activities in China have shown a strong trend of spatial aggregation. According to the research results, several proposals are put forward for interregional innovation.

    Abstract ( 1810 )   PDF (2212KB) ( 3133 )
Based on the literature review, a formation mechanism model of competitive advantages for the market-oriented medium, small, and micro-sized enterprises is proposes. By taking 136 medium, small, and micro-sized enterprises as samples in the seven areas of Zhejiang Province, the scales of enterprises and innovation patterns are introduced as control variables, and an empirical study on the model is conducted. The results show that market orientation has a positive impact on knowledge integration for the medium, small, and micro-sized enterprises. Market orientation has not only a direct impact, but also an indirect impact on organizational innovation through knowledge integration. Market orientation not only directly affects the competitive advantages of these enterprises, but also indirectly affects the competitive advantages of them by knowledge integration and organizational innovation. Knowledge integration has a significant positive impact on organizational innovation, while it has no impact on competitive advantages. Organizational innovation has a significant positive impact on competitive advantages in medium, small, and micro-sized enterprises, and also plays a completely intermediary role between knowledge integration and competitive advantages. Furthermore, it is also found that for the small and micro-sized enterprises, market orientation has an insignificant impact on organizational innovation and competitive advantages; knowledge integration and organizational innovation also have an insignificant effect on competitive advantages of them.

Impact of network structural holes on enterprise technological innovation activities
    Zhang Dan, Hu Zuguang
    2013, (6): 34-41.
    Abstract ( 1790 )   PDF (973KB) ( 2965 )
The existing research shows that the network structural hole has two totally opposite effects on the enterprise technological innovation activities i.e. on the one hand, the network structural hole expands the diversity of touchable information, exerting a positive impact on technological innovation activities; on the other hand, the network structural hole increases the risk of opportunistic behavior, bringing a negative effect on the technological innovation activities. In fact, taking the different types of technological innovation activities into consideration, these two effects might not be contradictory. The study results show that network structural holes have a positive impact on the exploratory innovation, and the trust has positively moderated the relation between two of them. Network structural holes have the insignificant impact on the exploitative innovation activity.

Technology choice, input intensity, and enterprise innovation performance
    Kang Zhiyong
    2013, (6): 42-49.
    Abstract ( 1664 )   PDF (929KB) ( 2848 )
Whether more advanced technology choice is better for enterprise innovation? Whether stronger input intensity is better for enterprise innovation? Based on the theoretical framework of appropriate technology, some exploratory research on these issues is carried out by using a large sample data of Chinese domestic enterprises in the manufacturing sector. Through empirical test, it is found that (1) under the control of the input intensity in enterprise innovation, there is also an inverted "U"-shaped relationship between the level of innovative technology and innovation performance; (2) under the control of the technical level of enterprise innovation, there is also an inverted "U"-shaped relationship between the input intensity in enterprise innovation and innovation performance. Therefore, over emphasis on the advance ness of technology and the high intensity of innovation input does not conduce to the improvement of innovation performance. Entrepreneurial innovation activity must follow a comparative advantage strategy to maximize the innovation performance through the promotion of the self-generated ability.

On the decline of carbon emissions intensity in China: Structural effect and patent effect
    Zhou Wuqi, Nie Ming
    2013, (6): 50-57.
    Abstract ( 1805 )   PDF (1192KB) ( 3082 )
The dynamic effect of structural factors and patents on carbon emission intensity in China from the year of 1985 to 2009 is analyzed by employing ARDL model and bound testing approach. The empirical results show that per-capita income has a significant negative impact on carbon emission intensity and the coal share in total energy consumption has a significant positive impact on it. The increasing per-capita income might help improving the decline of carbon emission intensity; however the marginal impact of per-capita income on carbon emission intensity is lower than that of the coal share on the intensity. The short term impact of the coal share on carbon emission intensity is significantly lower than its long term effect. The share of tertiary industry in GDP shows a significant impact on carbon emission intensity; however its impact on the carbon emission intensity is not identical with the different models, indicating an unbalanced development trend within tertiary industry. Therefore, the target of industrial structure adjustment is not only to increase the proportion of tertiary industry in GDP, but also to speed up its transition to resource-saving and environment-friendly economic development. The short-term impact of patent output on carbon emission intensity is basically insignificant, showing a lag influence of patent output on carbon emission intensity. In the long run, a significantly negative correlation is found between carbon emission intensity and total amount of patent, practical new-typed patent and appearance design patent while there is a significantly positive relationship between carbon emission intensity and invention patents, showing that the invention patents have not played its promotive role in carbon intensity reduction yet.

Fan Qunlin, Shao Yunfei, Tang Xiaowo
    2013, (6): 68-76.
    Abstract ( 1792 )   PDF (1124KB) ( 2933 )
Maintaining rapid economic growth, reducing energy consumption, and easing environmental pressure are all dependent on technological innovation. By taking the Chinese large and medium industrial enterprises in 30 areas in Mainland China as example, the effects of environmental policy, technological progress, and market structure on environmental technology innovation are discussed through the establishment of panel models. The results show that environmental law regulation and environmental impact assessment have an insignificant effect on environmental technology innovation; the system of three concurrencies exists a positive impact, Both permission institution for discharging sewage and pollution control within a limit time institution have a negative impact, and the cumulative effects are obvious all existed. In the meantime, compared with other factors, human capital stock owns a positive effect, while R&D investment intensity owns a negative effect. It indicates that labor remains the major contribution element to Chinese large and medium industrial enterprises and the development mode is still slipshod. In addition, technology market owns a positive impact and cumulative effect on environmental technological innovation, indicating that the demand expectation of future domestic market rather than exports will promote more innovation. Namely, export trade does not promote the environmental innovation of China effectively. Finally, combined the analysis with the interpretation of empirical result, some specific recommendations are given.

Guo Yi, Feng Leming, Liu Yin
    2013, (6): 84-90.
    Abstract ( 1788 )   PDF (897KB) ( 2666 )
The relation between the feature difference of the both side involving enterprise size, capital structure and supply chain risk existing in Chinese export enterprise is focused on; this kind of supply chain risk particularly reflects whether an export enterprise faces the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) coming from its international trading partners. By using the dually selection of Logit and Probit models to analyze the data collected from the questionnaire on CSR. The research has found that the bigger the enterprise size is, the more likely it faces the CRS requirement from its international trading partners. Also the international trading partners have inclined to propose the CSR requirements to the enterprise whose capital structure is purely domestic. Finally, several reality explanations involving above result are given, and some relevant suggestion for Chinese enterprises are provided.

Spatial econometric analysis on Chinese patent product efficiency
Ma Junjie, Lu Rui, Liu Chunyan
    2013, (6): 99-105,114.
    Abstract ( 1693 )   PDF (2136KB) ( 2943 )
Under the assumption that scale returns are variance, the usage of Total Factor Productivity (TFP) analysis framework is introduced. From the angle of production theory, the factors of pure technical efficiency change, scale efficiency change, technical change, and technical efficiency change are comprehensively considered. The knowledge production function is used to built a DEA-Malmquist index of patent output performance which could be used to detect the dynamic change of the efficiency. And then the socio-economic panel data of 30 provinces (municipalities) in China during the period of 2000-2008 are used to conduct an empirical analysis on patent output performance. And the spatial econometric approach is adopted to make a comprehensive investigation on regional differences and impact of influence factors. The empirical result shows that the efficiency of patent output maintains an upward trend and presents a distribution pattern of spatial dependence and spatial heterogeneity at the global scale, and the most of innovators concentrate in the eastern coastal area of China. Besides, it is also found that the level of regional economic development, the industrial structure, and the level of urbanization exert the important positive influence on the efficiency of regional patent output, meanwhile the index of transaction value in technical market and educational population receiving the degree equal or above associate diploma per 100,000 persons make insignificant contributors to the efficient growth in the short term.

An evaluation method for scientific research project selectionbased on the evidential reasoning algorithm under multi-dimensional frames of discernment
Zhang Hongtao, Zhu Weidong, Wang Hui, Wu Yong
    2013, (6): 122-128.
    Abstract ( 1687 )   PDF (1029KB) ( 3201 )
To overcome the disadvantages of existing evaluation methods for scientific research project selection, a new evaluation approach based on the evidential reasoning algorithm under multi-dimensional frames of discernment is proposed. According to the logical relationship, the frames of discernment are distinguished to the parallel frame, progressive frame, and mixed frame. The comprehensive evaluation grade with the degree of familiarity and the funding advice plus the degree of familiarity in the peer review form are regarded as two parallel progressive frames and are transformed into pieces of evidence, where the peer reviews could be expressed by evaluation grades (funding advice) with belief. In this way, the incomplete information of peer reviews is able to be easily described and the valuable information of assessment could be fully integrated. Then the expert weights are given by the degree of familiarity and the peer reviews are integrated on two parallel frames, respectively by using the evidential reasoning operator. And then the evaluations of scientific research projects are quantified and selected. Finally, an example is given to check the validation of the approach.
