    2017, 38(1): 30-36.
    Abstract ( 906 )
In order to accord with the two principles of generalizeness and uniqueness, the paper has analyzed the effectives of international R&D on host countries’ R&D productivity and mechanism with the path converged design based on OECD, EU15 and other 8 countries during 2000-2012. The paper has discovered that crowding-out effect of international R&D on host countries domestic R&D investment is the leading cause, otherwise the factor productivity effect based on comparing the empirical result between high income countries and the low income countries. Crowding-out effect comes from the inhibiting effect on entrepreneurial spirit of host countries of international R&D and then through the crowding –out effect the international R&D could decrease the factor productivity for R&D.

Research on the Composition and Cultivation of Enterprise Design Innovation Capability——From Product Semantics Perspective
    2017, 38(1): 37-45.
    Abstract ( 807 )
The importance of design innovation is well recognized. Product meaning innovation has not been well studied as core to design innovation. Research on this issue is still in its embryonic phase. We try to open the black box of design innovation how to carry out product meaning innovation through thorough analysis of design innovation capability. Using an in-depth data analysis, like EFA, CFA and model fitting with data collected from 196 southeast coastal enterprises, we have three four important findings. First, design innovation capability can be divided into technology capability, connotation design capability and denotation design capability, which have significant positive relationship with each other. Second, connotation design capability is most important to innovation performance, followed with denotation design capability, and technology capability has no direct relationship with innovation performance. Third, the effect of technology capability on innovation performance is fully mediated by connotation design capability and denotation design capability. Fourth, several managerial suggestions are proposed on how to cultivate design innovation capability, and future research suggestions proposed in the end of the paper.

Contexts Analysis on Automobile Components Manufacturers’ Use of Assembling Manufacturers' Knowledge
    Lin Yan
    2017, 38(1): 46-53.
    Abstract ( 702 )
A question has long puzzled automobile components firms is that whether the automakers is the important knowledge source for their innovations? Previous empirical studies, which were designed in the macro level, gave the overview scene. The main purpose of this paper is, from the micro view, to clarify for automobile components suppliers about the real effect of using automakers’ knowledge in their innovations. We believe the effect may be different in different contexts. Two dimensions are identified to classify the context: the supplier’s capability in creation and the radicalness of the innovation. Four type contexts of innovations are identified by integrating these 2 dimensions. Employing parts suppliers in the United States as the research subject, and applying patent data to construct variables, we examine the effects of using automakers’ knowledge in different contexts. The result shows that, the automakers' knowledge play the major role in the case of a weak supplier initiates a less radical innovation. Further, when a strong supplier initiates an innovation with high level of radical, using more automakers’ knowledge will decrease his innovation quality. The result also shows that, strong suppliers can’t gain benefits by using automakers’ knowledge, what they should do is searching knowledge broadly from other external sources.

Research on the Choice of Patent Strategy and its Innovative Effect of Market-Driven Alliance Firms
    2017, 38(1): 70-80.
    Abstract ( 719 )
Nowadays, strategic alliance has become an important choice to enhance firms’ market power. Set alliance firms as the research object, this paper investigated how the alliance firms choose their patent strategies and the realization of strategic and performance goals when taking the market motivation into consideration. Constructed the research framework of “market motivation-patent strategy-firms’ innovative performance”, we proposed the assumptions of influencing mechanism of market motivation on choice of patent strategies and the relationship among market motivation, patent strategies and firms’ innovative performance respectively. Take the alliance in IT industry as the research sample, we empirically tested the relationship among market motivation, patent strategies and firms’ innovative performance, and results show that: (1) difference in market position led to the difference in alliance motivation and choice of patent strategies, firms with low market power tend to choose the patent defensive and leveraging strategy under market access motivation, while firms with stronger market power would choose the patent propriety and leveraging strategy; (2) on the basis of alliance, firms’ patent strategic choice would influence their innovative performance, in case of market access, firms would enhance their innovative efficiency and market capitalization, while under the circumstance of stronger market power, the use of patent strategic profile only promotes their market capitalization, but have no effect on innovative efficiency or patent output at all.
