Abstract: As an indispensable part of scientific papers, reference tends to be one of the important factors that decide the level of papers. Meanwhile, citation is one of the important indexes for paper evaluation. Is there a correlation between the two factors? In order to solve this problem, we study from two points: the correlation between the quantity of reference and citation; the correlation between the quality of reference and citation. Through the study, neither of the two aspects is obvious. So the correlation between reference and citation is not obvious, reference should be an index of paper evaluation system, independent of the citation indicator.
