Abstract: This paper selects the panel data of China's high-tech industries in the period of 1995 to 2010. Under the conditions of considering the input of R&D and the evolvement of marketization, the influence of vertical specialization on innovation performance and its industry differences are empirically examined by means of the GMM method of dynamic panel data. The results show that the vertical specialization makes a significant impact on innovation performance. Moreover, the impact is more significant after the WTO entry. However, the industry characteristics make a significant impact on the degree of which vertical specialization influences on innovation performance. In the industry which features in lower degree of monopoly or technology-intensiveness but higher degree of export-orientation, the influence of vertical specialization on innovation performance is more significant.
