Abstract: In order to investigate the relationship between entrepreneurial competence, control mechanisms, and radical innovation, a conceptual model is proposed and it is further examined empirically. The results show that entrepreneurial competence can facilitate radical innovation. This relationship is further moderated by different control mechanisms, such that the relationship is stronger when the personal control is high than when it is low, and the relationship is weaker when output control is high than when it is low. These results show the important role of control mechanisms.

Key words: control mechanism, entrepreneurial competence, radical innovation, demand uncertainty
