A study on the impact of digital dynamic capabilities on the new quality productive forces of specialized, refined, unique, and innovative enterprises

Abstract

As a driving force behind high-quality development, specialized, refined, unique, and innovative(SRUI) enterprises serve as a key engine for the formation and advancement of new quality productive forces. This study constructed a complex mediation model combining fsQCA and linear regression to explore the pathways through which digital dynamic capabilities drive innovation activity in SRUI enterprises and their mechanisms of influence on new quality productive forces, based on panel data from Chinese SRUI enterprises between 2017 and 2023. The findings revealed:(1) Digital perception capability, digital acquisition capability, and digital transformation capability interact synergistically to form six configurations that drive innovation activity in SRUI enterprises.(2) These six digital dynamic capabilities differ in their impact on new quality productive forces, with digital transformation capability playing a pivotal role in enhancing such productivity.(3) Mechanism tests show that digital dynamic capabilities promote new quality productive forces by stimulating innovation activity, while a lack of digital transformation capability hinders the upgrading and transformation of these productive forces. The results will offer significant insights for optimizing dynamic capability structure, enhancing innovation activity, and advancing new quality productive forces among SRUI enterprises.

Abstract
新质生产力是推动企业高质量发展的强劲推动力和支撑力,研究其驱动因素对于企业发展至关重要。本研究基于动态资源基础观,利用2015-2022年中国A股上市公司数据,实证分析了数智化转型对企业新质生产力的影响及异质性特征,并对吸收能力的中介作用和市场竞争强度的调节作用进行了检验。研究发现:(1)数智化转型对企业新质生产力水平的提升有显著影响;(2)吸收能力在数智化转型与企业新质生产力关系间发挥中介作用;(3)市场竞争强度在数智化转型与企业新质生产力关系间发挥正向调节作用;(4)相较于国有、中西部地区、衰退期的企业,非国有、东部地区、成长期和成熟期的企业实施数智化转型更能促进新质生产力水平提升。研究结论为企业数智化转型和提升新质生产力提供了理论支持,并丰富了相关实证研究。

New quality productivity is a powerful driving force and supporting force to promote the high-quality development of enterprises. This view has been widely recognized by the community. Accelerating the development of new quality productivity will help enterprises enhance their competitive advantage and realize sustainable development. However, the existing literature focuses on exploring the connotation characteristics and value significance of new quality productivity, and there are few empirical research models to explore its driving forces. Some studies believe that the digital intelligence transformation is the core driving force to lead the innovation and development of enterprises, and whether the digital intelligence transformation can improve the new quality productivity level of enterprises is an urgent topic to be discussed.Based on the dynamic resource-based view, using the data of China A-share listed companies from 2015 to 2022, this paper empirically analyzes the influence and heterogeneity of digital intelligence transformation on the new quality productivity of enterprises, and tests the mediating role of absorptive capacity and the moderating role of competitive intensity. It is found that: (1) the digital intelligence transformation has a significant impact on the improvement of the new quality productivity level of enterprises, and this conclusion still holds after various robustness tests. (2) the digital intelligence transformation can improve the absorptive capacity and new quality productivity of enterprises, and the absorptive capacity plays a mediating role in the relationship between the digital intelligence transformation and new quality productivity of enterprises. (3) the competitive intensity plays a positive role in moderating the relationship between the digital intelligence transformation and the new quality productivity of enterprises. (4) heterogeneity analysis shows that, compared with state-owned enterprises, enterprises in the central and western regions and in recession, non-state-owned, eastern regions, growing and mature regions can promote the improvement of new quality productivity by implementing digital intelligence transformation. The theoretical contributions of this study are as follows: first, the existing literature focuses on the connotation characteristics and value significance of new quality productivity, while there are few empirical research models to explore its driving factors. This study examines the influence of digital intelligence transformation on the new quality productivity level of enterprises through empirical research, which not only provides theoretical reference for promoting the transformation of digital intelligence and improving the new quality productivity level of enterprises, but also enriches the empirical research on the relationship between digital intelligence transformation and new quality productivity of enterprises. Second, based on the dynamic resource-based view, the theoretical model of "digital intelligence transformation-absorptive capacity-new quality productivity of enterprises" is constructed, and the intermediate transmission mechanism of absorptive capacity is deeply analyzed, which opens the "black box" in the process of digital intelligence transformation and empowerment of new quality productivity of enterprises. Thirdly, by including the industry competitive intensity at the macro level as a moderating variable, the boundary conditions of the impact of digital intelligence transformation on the new quality productivity of enterprises are further clarified, which is helpful to clarify the complex and diverse relationship between them and enrich the relevant research on the dynamic resource-based view.

In this qualitative study, we explore how incumbent firms in traditional industries build dynamic capabilities for digital transformation. Digital transformation has been defined as the use of new digital technologies, such as mobile, artificial intelligence, cloud, blockchain, and the Internet of things (IoT) technologies, to enable major business improvements to augment customer experience, streamline operations, or create new business models. In making sense of digital transformation, we discovered that leaders in various industry circles use the term inconsistently to describe various strategizing and organizing activities; in addition, the term has gained limited scholarly attention as a context for study of strategic change. Drawing on senior executives' experiences with leading digitalization projects at incumbent firms, we propose a process model comprising of nine microfoundations to reveal the generic contingency factors that trigger, enable, and hinder the building of dynamic capabilities for digital transformation. Our findings reveal that digital transformation is an ongoing process of using new digital technologies in everyday organizational life, which recognizes agility as the core mechanism for the strategic renewal of an organization's (1) business model, (2) collaborative approach, and eventually the (3) culture.

Abstract
专精特新企业是激发创新活力、完善产业生态不可或缺的关键主体,也是我国构建双循环新发展格局的重要力量。政府补助作为引导专精特新企业高质量发展的重要手段,能否促进企业提高研发人员投资、营造良好创新环境值得深入探究。本文基于A股上市公司中专精特新企业2018—2021年数据,探讨政府补助对企业研发人员薪酬安排的影响及其作用机理,并进一步探究项目属性类政府补助与待遇属性类政府补助对企业人员薪酬安排的影响是否存在差异性。结果表明,政府补助可以通过认证效应,提高企业的市场关注度与产学研协同能力,进而促进企业加大研发人员投入;相比待遇属性类政府补助,项目属性类政府补助对研发人员薪酬安排的影响更为显著;政府补助会因企业和区域特征而产生差异化效果;进一步分析表明,政府补助扶持企业薪酬水平提升有助于增加企业的长期价值。相关结论对理解企业创新活动中的政府补助定位及政策的后续推进提供了经验启示。

Abstract
不断开发出具有市场优势的新产品是企业长期发展的关键支撑,但关于企业如何获取新产品开发优势的研究较少。研究基于战略管理理论和知识基础理论,构建了一个被调节的中介效应模型,集中探讨技术多元化战略对新产品开发优势的影响机制,重点分析专利组合的中介作用和知识势差的调节作用。通过对来自高新技术企业的417份有效问卷的数据分析发现:技术多元化战略的两个维度,即技术挖掘和技术探索均正向影响新产品创新性和新产品开发速度,专利组合在其中起中介作用;知识势差不仅负向调节专利组合与新产品开发优势之间的关系,而且负向调节专利组合的中介作用。研究从新的视角为企业获取新产品开发优势提供了具体思路,有助于企业更加深刻地理解和开展新产品开发优势的实现过程。

New product development is a key link related to the survival and development of enterprises. The rapid development of digital technology makes product research and development face more uncertain challenges. Only by continuously developing new products with market advantages can enterprises win and maintain the market competitive position and promote the sustainable development of enterprises. The new product development advantages emphasizes that enterprises should not only develop innovative new products to lead the development of the industry, but also speed up the research and development of new products to lead the competitors. How to obtain the new product development advantages is a practical problem for enterprises to form sustainable development competitiveness, but there is less research on it. This study combines strategic management theory and knowledge-based theory. And on the basis of previous studies, it is found that under the background that the scientific and technological revolution has brought a variety of uncertain challenges to product research and development of enterprise, the long-term layout based on the technology diversification strategy can greatly enrich enterprise technical knowledge, and more effectively promote the process of obtaining the new product development advantages. In addition, patent portfolio as an important means of efficiently integrating internal and external resources of enterprises, as well as knowledge potential difference as an important knowledge feature affecting enterprises to obtain external innovation resources, have a profound impact on the acquisition process of new product development advantages. Therefore, two variables, patent portfolio and knowledge potential difference, are introduced to construct a moderated mediation model to explore the mediation mechanism and boundary conditions of technology diversification strategy affecting enterprises to obtain the new product development advantages. In this study, the data were collected in the form of questionnaire, and the conditions were set in advance to ensure the representativeness of the samples. Finally, 417 valid samples were obtained. The collected data are tested by hierarchical regression method and bootstrap method. The results show that firstly, technology diversification strategy has a positive impact on new product development advantages. Through technology mining and technology exploration, enterprises deepen and expand the technical field, optimize the research and development process and capture emerging opportunities, which is conducive to improving the new product creativity and the new product development speed. Secondly, patent portfolio plays an intermediary role between technology diversification strategy and new product development advantages. Enterprises need patent portfolio to integrate internal and external resources to generate new knowledge or ideas and enrich the resource pool of new product development in order to promote the process of obtaining the new product development advantages. In addition, knowledge potential difference not only negatively regulates the relationship between patent portfolio and new product development advantages, but also negatively regulates the intermediary role of patent portfolio. Excessive knowledge potential difference will form a barrier among enterprises, affect the efficiency of obtaining innovative resources and hinder the acquisition of new product development advantages. The research provides specific ideas for enterprises to obtain the new product development advantages from a new perspective, which helps enterprises to more deeply understand and carry out the realization process of new product development advantages.

Unabsorbed slack resources are critical for organizational innovativeness and success but research regarding the relationship between unabsorbed slack and firm outcomes has resulted in mixed findings. We build on upper echelons theory to shed light on the mostly overlooked role of decision makers in slack resource deployment. We investigate how the CEO's expertise influences slack resource deployment in computer software firms' exploratory and exploitative activities. Using panel data, our findings show that unabsorbed slack is associated with an increased share of exploration and a decreased share of exploitation in firm's activities. These relationships are weakened in firms led by CEOs with longer firm tenure or wider functional background breadth. In the case of CEOs with technical education, the negative relationship between slack and exploitation becomes positive, while the link between slack and exploration becomes negative. Additionally, our post-hoc analysis reveals a more precise non-linear account of the main effect relationships.
