Industrial heterogeneity, environmental regulation and technological innovation in the industrial sector
    2017, 38(5): 1-11.
    Abstract ( 883 )
Technological Innovation is an effective path to coordinate environmental regulation and industrial performance in industrial sector. The divergence exists about relation between environmental regulation and technological innovation, which need to be further testified in theoretical and empirical aspect. This paper constructs a mathematical model of environmental regulation and technological regulation in industrial sector based on different motivation of heterogeneous sector, and tests empirically the effect of environmental regulation on technological innovation using panel data of 35 industrial sectors from 2003 until 2012. The findings are that it is a “U” relationship between environmental regulation and technological innovation. That is to say, the weaker environmental regulation intensity will hinder technological innovation, and after the intensity reaches to the inflection point of “U” relationship, the environmental regulation will promote technological innovation. The inflection point of “U” relationship in pollution sector comes later than that of clean sector, and technological innovation of pollution sector responses slowly to environmental regulation. Now environmental regulation of the two sectors is staying on the left of inflection point. Therefore, the government should increase the intensity of environmental regulation appropriately, establish different environmental regulation policies towards different industrial sectors, and then promote technological innovation in industrial sector effectively.

Service Innovation Strategies and Competitive Advantages for Manufacturing Firms: Mechanisms and Contingencies
Zhao Lilong, Liu Yang, Wei Jiang, Wang Lin
    2017, 38(5): 20-29.
    Abstract ( 656 )
Although previous researches have indicated that service innovation is an effective strategy to gain competitive advantages for manufacturing firms, there still lacks an in-depth and clear account of how service innovation strategies actually influence manufacturing firms’ competitive advantages in the context of dynamic competitive environment. Thus, from the perspective of dynamic capability theory, we selected 247 Chinese manufacturing firms as a sample and investigate the practical relationship between service innovation strategies and firms’ competitive advantages. This empirical research indicates that both incremental and radical service innovation strategies have a directly positive impact on manufacturing firms’ competitive advantages in the dimensions of market performance and financial performance. These two strategies contribute more to improving the manufacturing firms’ market performance and financial performance when the market is more dynamic. The competition intensity, as a moderator, has a positive moderating influence on the relationship of the radical service innovation strategy with financial performance, as well as the market performance; while as for incremental service innovation strategy, it only has a positive influence on the relationship of the radical service innovation strategy with financial performance. These findings have important theoretical contributions to the existing literature and also have important practical implications for Chinese manufacturing firms’ service strategy in dynamic environment.

Wang Yu, Cheng Liwei, Xia Junnuo
    2017, 38(5): 38-47.
    Abstract ( 607 )
It’s important to industrial structure upgrading and economics growth in China for promoting the financial capital flowing to firm R&D and technology advancement. First, constructing theoretical model of the boundary effect of financial development on firms’ R&D investment, finds that the financial scale or financial efficiency that exceeds a certain boundary is not conducive to R&D decision or input. Second, using three stage DEA-Malmquist, HECKIT model and threshold panel, empirically finds that (1) double threshold exists in financial scale, lack of financial deepening or overexpansion is conducive to R&D investment. (2) single threshold exists in financial efficiency, the improve of skill progress, pure skill efficiency, scale efficiency and total factor productivity is conducive to R&D investment. (3) the extensive margin is more important for influence of financial development on firms’ R&D investment.

    2017, 38(5): 87-97.
    Abstract ( 668 )
Under new conditions of globalization, one essential part to successfully implement “Going Global” strategy is the development of vehicle recalls. With the panel data of U.S.’s 47-years, China’s 10-years and top 20 automobile manufacturers’ in China, this paper, using the paired comparison analysis, explores the gap of recall issues between these two countries who occupy the first two places of automobile sales in the world. Also, we devolve into the root causes of the gap. The results indicate that despite close sales of two countries in last decade, China lag far behind U.S. in vehicle recalls. Devoid of passive recalls initiated by government is the primary cause of the gap. Although China and U.S. have parallel volume of vehicles involved in a certain recall event, there is a substantial difference in recall numbers. Joint-venture auto makers are more likely to announce a recall than self-owner ones. Although there is no difference in recall attitude among joint-venture manufacturers, their corresponding brands in developed countries have more recalls than in China.

    Abstract ( 578 )
Under the complicated environment, Vvirtual Eenterprise(VE) is a competitive organization for because of its ability of rapidly responding to the market. In VE, how to measure the degree of virtualization(DV) and how to use DV explain the VE’ evolution process are the core issue to be solved urgently. So, the article applies the classical grounded theory and focuses on typical VE cases. In cases, Tthere are 20 enterprises including 3 enterprises companies’ development stages defined were used as an this article’s main logic line core cases and other 17 enterprises companies regarded as the complements to study the Degree of Virtualization(DV). The article applied the Classical Grounded Theory, has found that the The conception of DV is a key to answer solve the problems of virtualization. It also finds that DV plays an important role in virtual evolution process. DV DV is constructed by three indexesdimensionalities: function DV, production DV, and information platform. After deeply qualitative research of DV’s composition system and formation mechanism, combined text vector space model, The the article formulated a theoretical model of DV measuring and examined the index system with regression testing model and the soft EVIEWS. research utilizes the index system to evaluate DV. Then, the theoretical model of measuring DV is composed of the text vector space model. According to the model, the virtual operation enterprise (VOE) and the VE are different stages in virtual evolution process. To further examine its reliability and validity, regression testing model is built up. Finally, the research has achieved to measure the virtualization level quantitatively, enriches the literature of VE studies. providedIt also lays a solid theoretical foundation to clearly deep understand the phenomenon of the enterprises organizational virtualization evolution phenomenon of VEand promote further study of VE.

The research on the S&T innovation efficiency and its Influencing factors of Chinese Colleges from the perspective of innovation types
    2017, 38(5): 141-149.
    Abstract ( 598 )
The innovation achievements are decomposed into academic output and economic output from the perspective of innovation types, then this paper performs the exploratory research on the aspects of academic output efficiency, economic output efficiency and key influencing factors by using SFA method. The primary findings of the study can be summarized as follows: Firstly, the academic output is an investment-driven innovation activity, and the growth of academic output relies principally on the investment of R&D expenditure. R&D expenditure has a negative influence on economic output efficiency, while the appropriate increase of R&D personnel could help to improve the efficiency of economic output. Secondly, academic output efficiency and economic output efficiency is significantly different among colleges located in different provinces, but they distribute in rundle: the east is the highest, followed by the middle, the west is the lowest. The results show that there is a certain degree of association between the S&T innovation efficiency of colleges and local economic development level. Thirdly, the existing appraisal mechanism stressing on quantity results in the significantly negative correlation between the quality of R&D personnel quality and the academic output efficiency, while the non-significant negative correlation between R&D personnel quality and economic output efficiency. During the sample period, the increase of the government's support for S&T innovation activities in colleges cannot effectively improve the academic output efficiency.

    Yu Fangping, Kuang Haibo
    2017, 38(5): 150-160.
    Abstract ( 678 )
BDI index forecasting is of great practical significance for the management and decision-making of shipping market. In this study, we construct a O-U stochastic forecasting model of BDI index based on A new perspective from periodicity, mean reversion and jump features in this paper, The main innovation points are: Firstly, The periodicity, mean reversion and jump features of BDI index are analyzed and included in the BDI Index Stochastic forecasting model, which effectively improves the accuracy of the BDI index forecasting theory. Secondly, the BDI index stochastic forecasting model based on periodicity, mean reversion and jump features is set up. Simultaneously, the periodic parameters are estimated by the Fourier series function, the mean reverting parameters are estimated by means of the first order autoregressive estimation, and the jump parameters are estimated by means of Gamma distribution and double exponential distribution, which solves the problem of more parameters extremely difficult to calculate. Thirdly, the daily BDI data in 2013 to 2015 are presented to test the proposed model. The BDI index was fitted, and in the first half of 2016 is forecasting by Monte Carlo method. The results show that the proposed method has higher accuracy.
