A study on the relationship between paternalistic leadership and individual innovative behaviors in Chinese firms

Abstract: How to improve employees' innovative behaviors is an important issue for the managers of the Chinese enterprises in the era of knowledge-based economy. However, current researches paid little attention on the influential mechanisms of paternalistic leadership to individual innovative behaviors in the Chinese context. Based on a survey of Chinese employees, the conclusion is that authoritarian leadership has a negative effect on individual innovative behaviors, and benevolent-moral leadership has a positive effect on the behaviors. Meanwhile, creative self-efficacy and Chinesetraditionality has a mediating and moderating effects on the relationship between paternalistic leadership and individual innovative behaviors respectively.
