Business network, institution support, and independent innovation—An empirical study on industrial clusters in Guangdong Province

Abstract: According to different channels of outer information source, this paper divides the business network into horizontal spillovers networks, vertical spillovers networks and local business network, and explores whether the four types of institution support have moderate functions in supporting the business network and independent innovation. And then the paper discusses the effect of these dimensions on independent innovation performance based on the survey of the local industrial cluster in Guangdong province. According to effective questionnaires, the method of hierarchical regression analysis is used to test the models, and it is revealed: (1) international business networks and local business network have a significant impact on the independent innovation performance; (2) government department support has a significant moderate effect on the relationship between three types of business networks and independent innovation performance. While scientific research institution support only has a significant moderate effect on the relationship between international business network and independent innovation performance; (3) the moderating effects of financial institution and industry association on the relationship between business network and independent innovation performance are not significant.
