Wan Zixian, Zhang Si, Yu Rongjian, Chang Xinzhi
    2025, 46(3): 1-15.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.001
    Abstract ( 352 )
Currently, the digital transformation of Chinese enterprises is deeply entangled in the misconception of "paying more attention to technology than demand", leading to a significant resource waste and low effectiveness. To address this issue, this paper adopted a scenario-driven perspective to construct a dynamic adaptability model of "three dimensions and one core" through an indepth case study of a Chinese energy sales group. The study explored how enterprises can enhance their dynamic adaptability to internal and external demands through a double-layer feedback loop centered on "demand-driven digitalization of management" and "scenario-driven digitalization of business". The research findings are as follows: (1) The management of a digital feedback closed loop is central to digital transformation, and the iterative processes of demand identification, scenario design, and scenario feedback ensure the adaptability of scenario construction and demand alignment, thereby driving dynamic adaptability through scenario iteration; (2) Scenario capability shapes the trajectory of digital transformation. By upgrading technology, strengthening customer connections, and leveraging data-driven insights, enterprises enhance their internal and external adaptability, fostering the development and innovation of new scenarios; (3) The spiral upgrade of digital scenario construction fuels value creation, enabling enterprises to achieve adaptive dynamic adjustments in response to emerging technologies, evolving demands, and new market opportunities; (4) The scenario-driven value creation path exhibits dual characteristics: stock enhancement and incremental creation. Through demand-responsive management decisions and scenario iteration, a performance feedback loop is established, facilitating dynamic and adaptive value creation. This paper has introduced the concept of "dynamic adaptive value creation through digital scenarios", elucidated the demand-driven and scenario-based dynamic adaptive mechanisms, and it will provide a systematic and adaptive perspective for advancing both the theoretical and practical dimensions of enterprise digital transformation. The findings will offer innovative insights and actionable guidance for enterprises seeking efficient and effective digital transformation.

    2025, 46(3): 16-27.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.002
    Abstract ( 212 )
The deep integration of digital economy and real economy is not only reflected in the deepening of enterprise digital transformation, but also in its structural optimization. How to promote high-quality economic development with high-quality transformation has been given new significance in digital economy. This paper used the data of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2007 to 2021 to explore the impact of enterprise digital transformation structure on innovation strategy. We found that: (1) the enterprise digital structural optimization significantly promotes the innovation strategy to substantive innovation, and independent innovation ability enhancement, human capital re-upgrading, operating cost reduction are important channels; (2) when the degree of innovation competition in the industry, the quality of labor supply in the region and the support from innovation incentive policies is lower, the digital structural optimization has a more obvious promoting effect; and (3) the impact of subdivided digital technology structures on innovation strategy has both commonalities and characteristics, and the digital structural optimization promotes the concentration of innovation fields and the strengthening of innovation spillovers. From the perspective of structure, this paper has enriched the research on enterprise digital transformation, and it will provide solutions for how to alleviate the problem of "valuing quantity over quality" in innovation, thus having implications for enterprises to choose digital transformation paths and governments to design digital economic policies.

University scientists as inventors: The sources, novelty and diffusion of outlier innovations
Han Linghui, Chen Jin, Li Xibao
    2025, 46(3): 38-47.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.004
    Abstract ( 130 )
As nations strive for scientific and technological autonomy, outlier innovations have emerged as a critical driver of breakthrough technologies and industrial transformation. While scientists are key contributors to innovation, their role as inventors—particularly in generating outlier innovations—remains understudied. This study examined university scientists′ outlier innovations by using Chinese patent data from 1993 to 2018. By constructing a technological landscape through patent classification analysis and employing Logit and Negative Binomial regression models, we investigated the emergence, characteristics, and diffusion patterns of scientists′ outlier innovations. Our research made three theoretical contributions: first, we demonstrated how scientific knowledge and research expertise facilitate the discovery of outlier innovations within the technological landscape; second, we revealed how the fundamental nature of scientific research shapes the novelty of these innovations; and third, we identified the barriers in translating scientific breakthroughs into technological applications. Our findings indicated that university scientists are more likely to generate outlier innovations compared to other inventors, and their innovations demonstrate higher novelty but face greater challenges in gaining widespread adoption. These insights have advanced our understanding of outlier innovations and the science-technology interface, while offering valuable implications for bridging the gap between basic research and technological innovation, particularly for China′s pursuit of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance.

Zhang Yanping, Li Sha, Zhang Yao, Liu Yuanbin
    2025, 46(3): 48-59.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.005
    Abstract ( 90 )
The breakthroughs of "bottleneck" technologies are critical to national security and overarching development strategies. The "cross-industry and cross-domain industrial internet" platform enables digital intelligence technology. This technology enhances the capabilities of specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative (SRDI) enterprises, creating new opportunities to address the technical challenges of "bottleneck" technologies. Grounded in the theories of digital intelligence enabling and resource arrangement, this study conducted a longitudinal case analysis of how COSMOPlat enabled Qingdao Choho Industrial Co., Ltd. to overcome these "bottleneck" technologies. The key findings include: (1) The breakthroughs of "bottleneck" technologies progress through stages of technology accumulation, breakthrough and iteration. During these phases, two mechanisms—digital and intelligent enabling that promote resource arrangement and their co-evolution—play pivotal roles. (2) In the technology accumulation stages, SRDI enterprises independently build expertise in specialized fields and foundational digital and intelligent technologies. (3) In the technology breakthrough phase, the "cross-industry and cross-domain industrial internet" platform facilitates data and technology enabling, thus enabling SRDI enterprises to orchestrate data and technology resources, and enhancing innovation efficiency. Subsequently, structural enabling prompts SRDI enterprises to engage in process resource arrangement actions which reshape the innovation model. Through this dual coordination, SRDI enterprises achieve breakthroughs in "bottleneck" technologies. (4) In the technology iteration phase, the "cross-industry and cross-domain industrial internet" platform extends the cross-industry and cross-domain enabling, allowing SRDI enterprises to conduct multi-ecosystem-level resource arrangement actions that support the continuous iteration of "bottleneck" technology innovations. This research has enriched the understanding of breakthroughs in "bottleneck" technologies, expanded the interaction mechanisms between digital intelligence enabling and resource arrangement, and it will offer significant insights into leveraging the "cross-industry and cross-domain industrial internet" platform for the digital intelligence enabling of SRDI enterprises across various dimensions.

    2025, 46(3): 69-80.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.007
    Abstract ( 71 )
It is worthy of attention to explore how local latecomer enterprises continuously shape their competitive advantages to realize the stepwise process of catching up and leading in international market competition. There are abundant studies on latecomer catch-up from the perspective of organizational learning; however, there are few studies on the process mechanism of how latecomers deepen the formation of the organizational learning loop and upgrade their competitive advantages to achieve catch-up, surpass catch-up, and lead the step. Based on the organizational learning theory, this study selected Xiaomi Company to conduct an exploratory single-case study to investigate the internal mechanism of shaping and upgrading the competitive advantage of latecomers. It was discovered that the shaping of the competitive advantage of latecomers exhibits the process logic of grasping the key opportunity window, deepening the organizational learning loop, and upgrading and evolving the capability. Among them, identifying and grasping the key opportunity window by setting goals is the starting point for shaping and upgrading the competitive advantage of latecomers. Based on the guidance of goals, the organization undertakes single-loop optimization and improvement learning, double-loop innovation iterative learning, and three-loop transformation and reconstruction learning in order to provide the source power for the shaping and upgrading of stage competitive advantages and promote the evolution of corresponding capabilities to shape the competitive advantages of the user market, ecological aggregation, and innovation-leading. This promotes latecomer enterprises to gradually achieve the steps of catch-up, surpassing catch-up, and taking the lead. The research conclusion has clarified the process mechanism and the underlying logic of the continuous shaping of competitive advantages by latecomers, expanded the study of latecomer catch-up based on organizational learning, and it will provide significant enlightenment for local latecomers′ continuous shaping of competitive advantages to lead the transition.

Impact of public companies′ participation in PPP projects on innovation output
Yan Chao, Zhong Huijie, Dai Wentao
    2025, 46(3): 91-100.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.009
    Abstract ( 89 )
The public-private partnership (PPP) is a government-enterprise cooperation model encouraged and actively promoted by the Chinese government. However, there is still a lack of research analyzing the effects of its implementation based on a micro-firm perspective. This paper identified whether a listed company participates in PPP projects through its announcement, and empirically analyzed the impact of firms′ participation in PPP projects on their innovation output using a combination of difference-in-differences and propensity score matching methods. We found that the number of patent applications by enterprises significantly increases after participating in PPP projects, and they are mainly invention patents and utility model patents rather than design patents. This indicates that participation in PPP projects can significantly increase the level of substantive innovation of enterprises. The mechanism analyses showed that participation in PPP projects can significantly reduce firms′ financing constraints and effective tax burdens, which in turn increases the funds used for innovation and improves the level of firms′ innovation output. Further analyses found that the effect is influenced by the environment of the region where the firm is located, and that firm innovation significantly improves after participating in PPP projects only when the level of marketization is higher and government transparency is better. This paper has enriched the literature on the economic consequences of firms′ participation in PPP projects, and it will expand the research on the influence factors of firm innovation, and thus it is of great practical significance for evaluating the effectiveness of the use of the PPP model.

Influence and mechanism of supply chain uncertainty on enterprise innovation
Dong Qichen, Xiao Tusheng, Zhao Xueqing
    2025, 46(3): 101-109.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.010
    Abstract ( 125 )
Innovation is the first driving force for enterprise development, but with the world entering a century of unprecedented changes, the increase in supply chain uncertainty has brought major challenges to enterprise innovation. This paper constructed a theoretical model to describe the internal mechanism of supply chain uncertainty affecting firm innovation, and provided a measurement method of supply chain uncertainty and makes an empirical test. It was found that the increase of supply chain uncertainty will inhibit enterprise innovation, mainly due to the resource constraint effect caused by supply chain uncertainty resulting in the reduction of commercial credit financing, and to the value wait-and-see effect caused by the contraction of investment in special assets. The internal digital transformation and the increased transparency of the supply chain, the reform of the margin financing system outside the enterprise and the opening of the capital market can help alleviate the negative impact of supply chain uncertainty on enterprise innovation. The uncertainty of different supply chain entities can inhibit the innovation of enterprises, but compared with customer uncertainty, supplier uncertainty has a stronger inhibitory effect on innovation. From the perspective of enterprise innovation output, supply chain uncertainty also has an inhibitory effect on enterprise innovation output, especially the negative impact on joint innovation. This study has revealed the economic consequences of supply chain uncertainty, and it will provide a new perspective and knowledge for maintaining the security and stability of national supply chain and promoting enterprise innovation.

    2025, 46(3): 110-121.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.011
    Abstract ( 51 )
The general trust model is the result of cooperative experiences in response to climatic risks during historical agricultural production. This trust model maintains its long-term and sustained influence through intergenerational transmission, further impacting current corporate collaborative behaviors. Utilizing historical climate data from China spanning from 1470 to 1979, this paper examined the impact of historical climate risks on corporate collaborative innovation behaviors and the underlying mechanisms. The study found that in regions with higher historical climate risks, corporations exhibit higher levels of collaborative innovation; linguistic diversity and clan culture weaken the positive relationship between historical climate risks and corporate collaborative innovation; and the general trust model plays a mediating role in the relationship between historical climate risks and corporate collaborative innovation. This paper will provide a new perspective and explanatory logic for research on the antecedents of corporate collaborative innovation, thus enriching the intersectional study of climate social history and corporate behavior.

The double-edged sword effect of fear of entrepreneurial failure on digital entrepreneurship willingness
Lin Haifeng, Zuo Xiexing, Zhong Yunhua
    2025, 46(3): 130-140.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.013
    Abstract ( 46 )
Fear of entrepreneurial failure is a typical entrepreneurial psychological state that requires great attention in the VUCA context. Existing studies have mostly focused on the negative effects caused by the fear of failure, but they have not deeply explored the complex mechanism of the fear of failure. In this paper, we drew on the theory of complex adaptive systems (CAS) to model the "double-edged sword" effect of fear of failure on digital entrepreneurship. The empirical analysis was carried out through the hierarchical regression and structural equation modeling (SEM), and the results showed that: (1) the direct effect of fear of entrepreneurial failure on digital entrepreneurial willingness is significantly negative; (2) the fear of entrepreneurial failure "constrains" digital entrepreneurial willingness by reducing risk tolerance; and (3) fear of entrepreneurial failure "drives" digital entrepreneurial willingness through psychological capital accumulation. The study further confirmed the above conclusions through the fsQCA method and added a more granular conclusion that high risk tolerance and high psychological capital can synergistically drive college students′ digital entrepreneurial willingness. This paper has revealed the "double-edged sword" effect of fear of failure on students′ digital entrepreneurial willingness, which has not only theoretically expanded the research on the effect of fear of failure, but also provided important managerial insights on how to stimulate the positive effect and inhibit the negative effect of fear of failure.

    2025, 46(3): 140-149.  DOI: 10.19571/j.cnki.1000-2995.2025.03.014
    Abstract ( 34 )
Entrepreneurship is widely regarded as an important means to eliminate poverty. However, the factors influencing entrepreneurial persistence in impoverished contexts remain underexplored. Based on the social cognitive theory, this study took ethnic entrepreneurs in Fugong, a poverty alleviation area in the Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province as research samples, combined multiple cases analysis with questionnaires to explore the relationship and boundary conditions of entrepreneurs′ perceived entrepreneurial institutional environment and entrepreneurial persistence in this area. Through an analysis of 4 typical case studies, factor analysis, multicollinearity tests as well as multiple regression analysis based on empirical data derived from 116 valid questionnaires, the following conclusions were drawn: firstly, in the context of poverty, entrepreneurial persistence is significantly impacted by the perceived entrepreneurial institutional environment of entrepreneurs; secondly, poverty identity and business size of entrepreneurs weaken the relationship between the perceived entrepreneurial institutional environment and entrepreneurial persistence respectively; thirdly, for those entrepreneurs without poverty identity but with small business size, their perceived entrepreneurial institutional environment has the strongest impact on entrepreneurial persistence. For those entrepreneurs with poverty identity and small business size, their perceived entrepreneurial institutional environment has the weakest impact on entrepreneurial persistence. This study has enriched the research on influential factors on entrepreneurial persistence and boundary conditions of its effect mechanism, extended the application of social cognitive theory to entrepreneurial field, and it will provide some implications for underdeveloped ethnic regions to make supportive entrepreneurial policies.
