Abstract:    Under the background of tariff competition, the stability of international customer relationship is facing great challenges, and the reconstruction of customer relationship will affect the innovation power and ability of enterprises. Based on the data of customer relationship reconstruction at home and abroad collected by hand, and taking the Sino-US trade friction as the quasi-natural experiment, this paper selected the A-share listed companies in China from 2015 to 2021 as the research sample, and used the difference-in-differences model to investigate the influence and action mechanism of customer relationship reconstruction at home and abroad on enterprise innovation investment under tariff competition. The findings are as follows: (1) the reconstruction of customer relationship at home and abroad caused by tariff competition promotes the innovation investment of enterprises, which is mainly achieved through information transparency and government subsidies; (2) Based on the heterogeneity analysis at the enterprise level, it was found that among enterprises with low overseas business income, state-owned enterprises and high bargaining power, the reconstruction of domestic and foreign customer relations caused by tariff competition has a more obvious role in promoting innovation investment; moreover, the heterogeneity analysis based on regional and industry level showed that this promotion is more significant in high marketization process, high level of government property protection and non-high-tech industries; (3) The study of economic consequences showed that the reconstruction of customer relationship caused by tariff competition leads to the decline of innovation performance instead of rising. The research will provide an explanation from the international environment and supply chain relationship for understanding innovation activities, and also provide reference for supply chain management of enterprises.
