Research on the influence mechanism of empowering leadership behavior on team creativity

Abstract:    In the epoch of digital intelligence, team creativity has become an important way to continuously drive enterprise innovation and gain competitive advantages. However, how to stimulate team creativity has become a key challenge that must be addressed for innovative development of enterprises. From the perspective of team interaction and based on the motivated information processing theory, this paper adopted team type as the boundary condition and constructed a moderated doublemediation model from two paths of interpersonal interaction and information elaboration, and explored the influence mechanism of empowering leadership behavior on team creativity. Taking 85 R&D teams and 641 team members of domestic S&T enterprises as the research object, this paper used certain software to test the hypothesis through path analysis and Bootstrapping. The research results are as follows: (1) Empowering leadership behavior positively influences team creativity through interpersonal interaction; (2) Empowering leadership behavior positively influences team creativity through information elaboration; (3) Team type not only positively moderates the direct effect between empowering leadership behavior and information elaboration, but also positively moderates the indirect effect of empowering leadership behavior on team creativity through information elaboration. However, the direct effect that team type positively moderates empowering leadership behavior and interpersonal interaction, and the indirect effect of empowering leadership behavior on team creativity through interpersonal interaction are not significant. This study has not only revealed the influence mechanism of empowering leadership behavior on team creativity through interpersonal interaction and information elaboration, but also furnished some management enlightenment for leaders to enhance team creativity through empowerment behavior.
