Research on the impact of digital transformation on the innovation gap of the regional high-tech industry

Abstract:    The high-tech industry plays an important role in promoting coordinated development of regional innovation. Studying the impact of digital transformation on the innovation gap of high-tech industries is of great significance for optimizing the innovation spatial pattern and enhancing the overall strength of scientific and technological innovation.This paper analyzed the impact mechanism of digital transformation on innovation gap based on provincial panel data, and used the panel regression model, quantile regression model, panel threshold model, and BVAR model to empirically analyze the impact law and interactive relationship of digital transformation on innovation gap.The results showed that:(1) digital transformation has, in general, shown a significant narrowing effect on the innovation gap; (2) from a regional perspective, the digital transformation of provincial-level regions in the eastern region has widened the innovation gap, while the digital transformation of provincial-level regions in the central and western regions is conducive to narrowing the innovation gap; (3) as the innovation gap continues to widen, the role of digital transformation in narrowing it gradually diminishes; (4) when digital transformation is at a low or high level, it shows a significant narrowing effect on the innovation gap, and this narrowing effect is stronger when the level of digital transformation is high; and (5) the continuous widening of the innovation gap has suppressed the improvement of digital transformation level, and there is a negative interactive relationship between digital transformation and innovation gap.Therefore, different regions should formulate digital development strategies based on their own actual development, better leverage the role of digital transformation in narrowing innovation gaps and achieving innovation convergence, while objectively recognizing the positive role of innovation gaps. It is necessary to prevent both lack of innovation gaps and excess of innovation gaps.
