动态组态视角下企业创新韧性的驱动路径研究

摘要

增强企业创新韧性是VUCA时代企业存续并逆势成长的关键。本文基于内外部因素的整合框架,辨析了高管团队经验、数字化水平、创新资源投入、城市创新氛围、外部研发协作和环境复杂性6个企业创新韧性的前因条件,并选取中国A股制造业上市企业为观测样本,采用多时段QCA方法探源企业高创新韧性的前因组态规律和动态轨迹。研究发现:企业创新韧性是多因共驱的结果,不存在单一的必要条件;在冲击前和冲击后不同时段有4类促使企业产生高创新韧性的等效驱动路径,包括数字-研发驱动型、高管-研发驱动型、高管-投入驱动型和创新投入驱动型,其中数字-研发驱动型在两个时段中稳定出现,且存在多样化的替代与互补机制;创新资源投入、高管团队经验、外部研发协作和数字化水平是主导冲击前时段和冲击后时段驱动路径的支配性因素。研究结论有利于理解企业创新韧性的复杂形成机理,为企业增强创新韧性和实现高质量发展提供理论与实践启示。

Abstract

Enhancing enterprise innovation resilience is the key for enterprises to survive and thrive against adversities in the VUCA era. Based on the integrated framework of internal and external factors, this paper identifies six antecedent conditions of enterprise innovation resilience, including top management team's experiences, digitalization level, innovation resources investment, urban innovation climate, external R&D cooperation, and environmental complexity, and discusses the configuration patterns and dynamic trajectories of high innovation resilience of enterprises by multi-temporal QCA method based on the listed manufacturing enterprises in China's A-share market as the observed samples. The results of the study showed that: (1) Enterprise innovation resilience is the outcome of the interaction of multiple factors, and there is no solitary necessary condition; (2) There are four types of equivalent driving paths that enable enterprises to attain high innovation resilience in the pre-impact and post-impact periods, namely digitalization-R&D driven pattern, top management team-R&D driven pattern, top management team-investment driven pattern, and innovation investment driven pattern. Among them, the digitalization-R&D driven pattern emerges stably in both periods, and there are diverse substitution and complementary mechanisms; and (3) Innovation resources investment, top management team's experiences, external R&D cooperation, and digitalization level are the preponderant factors of the driving paths in both the pre-impact and post-impact periods. The research conclusions are conducive to understanding the complicated formation mechanism of enterprise innovation resilience, and they will provide theoretical and practical insights for enterprises to enhance innovation resilience and achieve high-quality development.

摘要
当前复杂严峻的内外部环境给企业发展带来前所未有的冲击,如何提升企业创新韧性成为亟待解决的现实问题。本文明确了企业创新韧性的内涵和特征及度量方法,讨论了影响企业创新韧性的内外部因素,从提供冗余资源、缓解融资约束、优化资源配置几个角度分析了影响企业创新韧性的理论机制。为进一步验证,选取风险投资这一影响企业创新韧性的重要变量进行实证检验。以中国创业板2009—2020年上市公司季度数据为样本,合并了企业的专利数据、风险投资、风险投资机构相关数据。研究发现风险投资支持显著提升了企业创新韧性,这种效应因不同企业特征存在异质性。此外风险投资的类别、性质、属地对这种效应发挥了显著的调节作用。基于研究结果提出相关政策建议,为企业在动荡环境中生存和发展提供了有益的参考。

The current complex and severe internal and external environment brings unprecedented impact to enterprise development, and how to improve enterprise innovation resilience has become a realistic problem to be solved. This paper clarifies the connotation and characteristics of enterprise innovation resilience and its measurement method, discusses the factors affecting enterprise innovation resilience, and analyzes the theoretical mechanisms affecting enterprise innovation resilience from several perspectives of providing redundant resources, alleviating financing constraints, and optimizing resource allocation. For further validation, venture capital, an important variable influencing firm innovation resilience, is selected for empirical analysis. Based on the quarterly data of listed companies in GEM from 2009 to 2020, this paper combines the patent data, venture capital data and venture capital organization data. It is found that venture capital support significantly enhances firms' innovation resilience, and this effect is heterogeneous by firm characteristics. In addition, the type, nature, and location of venture capital play a significant moderating role on this effect. Based on the research results, relevant policy recommendations are proposed, which provide useful references for firms to survive and grow in turbulent times.

以协同理论为基础,分析了公司创业投资(CVC)及技术契合度对被投资企业创新韧性的影响,进一步探究了CVC母公司控制权、被投资企业研发效率在双方技术契合度与被投资企业创新韧性关系中的门槛效应,以及被投资企业全要素生产率的调节效应,并以2015—2018年在创业板IPO的281家上市企业为样本进行了实证检验。研究结果表明:CVC能够显著提升被投资企业创新韧性,母公司与被投资企业的技术契合度正向影响被投资企业创新韧性;CVC、技术契合度与被投资企业创新韧性的关系表现出基于外部环境的异质性;母公司控制权、被投资企业研发效率在技术契合度与被投资企业创新韧性关系中起到一阶门槛作用;全要素生产率正向调节技术契合度与被投资企业创新韧性的关系。最后,针对CVC母公司、创业企业以及相关部门提出了相应的对策建议。

以2010~2021年中国A股上市公司为研究样本,探讨数字化转型对企业创新韧性影响的作用机制,并深入分析不同生命周期特征的边界效应。研究发现:数字化转型与企业创新韧性之间存在显著的倒U形关系;对于企业生命周期不同阶段而言,成长期企业数字化转型显著促进企业的创新韧性,成熟和衰退期企业数字化转型与创新韧性仍呈现出倒U形关系,但衰退期企业数字化的赋能作用区间相对更低。进一步地,基于中间机制的分析结果也支持了上述结论。

Using Chinese A-share listed companies from 2010 to 2021 as samples, this study examines the mechanism of how digital transformation affects enterprise innovation resilience and further analyzes the boundary effects of distinct lifecycle attributes. The study uncovers a significant inverted U-shaped relationship between digital transformation and enterprise innovation resilience. Across various phases of the enterprise lifecycle, digital transformation notably bolsters innovation resilience during the growth phase. Meanwhile, in the mature and decline phases, digital transformation and innovation resilience maintain an inverted U-shaped relationship, but the empowering scope of digital transformation during the decline phase is comparatively diminished. Moreover, the findings are also corroborated by the analysis based on intermediary mechanisms.

In this study, we explore how top executives affect the well-being of multiple stakeholders and long-run organizational outcomes. In the context of the 2008 global financial crisis (GFC), we examine how CEO greed impacts firms’ stance toward corporate social responsibility (CSR) prior to the onset of the GFC and how this, in turn, shapes firms’ fate during and after the GFC. We argue that CEO greed will be negatively associated with CSR, because in their unbridled pursuit of personal wealth, greedy CEOs are more likely to exhibit myopic behaviors and neglect investment in CSR. We also adopt a person-pay interactionist logic to theorize that the willingness of greedy executives to invest in CSR will be especially sensitive to different types of pay instruments. Next, we build on recent findings from research on CSR that suggest that stakeholder engagement is a defining feature of resilient organizations. We expect that, due to low CSR investment, firms led by greedy CEOs will experience greater losses in the short run and will take longer time to recover from the 2008 GFC. For a sample of 301 CEOs of public U.S. organizations, we analyzed the stock prices and found general support for our hypotheses.

基于组织信息处理理论,构建一个有调节的中介模型,并以国内317个新创企业为样本进行实证研究,探讨网络市场导向对新创企业组织韧性的影响机制。研究发现:网络市场导向对新创企业组织韧性具有正向影响;双元即兴在二者之间起到部分中介作用;数字技术强化了网络市场导向和双元即兴之间的关系,并正向调节网络市场导向通过双元即兴影响新创企业组织韧性的间接关系。

Based on organizational information processing theory, this study constructs a moderated mediation model to reveal the impact mechanism of network market orientations on the new ventures’ organizational resilience. Taking 317 new ventures in China as samples, the study finds that: network market orientations has a positive impact on new ventures’ organizational resilience. Ambidextrous improvisation mediates the above relationship. Digital technology strengthens the positive relationship between network market orientations and ambidextrous improvisation, and further moderates the mediating effect of ambidextrous improvisation between network market orientations and new ventures’ organizational resilience.
