同行创新失败信息对企业创新产出的影响研究
Research on the impact of peers' innovation failure information on enterprise innovation output
从同行创新失败中学习的经验是企业完善知识体系的关键知识源,深刻影响企业未来创新产出。本文基于信号传递理论和组织学习理论,利用2014—2022年中国A股上市企业数据,采用双向固定效应模型和调节效应模型,从员工层面系统探究了同行创新失败信息影响企业创新产出的失败学习机制。研究发现:(1)同行创新失败信息对企业创新产出具有显著正向促进作用,并在一系列稳健性检验后仍然成立;(2)基于AMO理论的机制检验表明,员工的“学习能力(A)-学习动机(M)-学习机会(O)”会显著强化同行失败信息对企业创新产出的促进作用,其中学习动机的调节效果最大,学习机会次之,学习能力的作用最弱;(3)异质性分析发现,对成长期企业、非国有企业以及行业竞争激烈企业而言,同行创新失败信息对其创新产出的促进作用更为强烈。研究结论不仅凸显了外部异质知识源对企业创新的重要性,更从人力资本视角丰富了提升企业创新产出的机制研究。
The experience gained from peers' innovation failure serves as a key knowledge source for enterprises to refine their knowledge systems, and profoundly influences their future innovation output. Based on the signaling theory and the organizational learning theory, using the data of China's A-share listed companies from 2014 to 2022, this paper employed a dual fixed-effects model and a moderation effect model to systematically explore the employee-level failure learning mechanism through which peer firms' innovation failure information affects corporate innovation output. The findings are as follows: (1) Peer firms' innovation failure information has a significant positive effect on corporate innovation output, and this conclusion remains valid after a series of robustness tests; (2) The mechanism test based on the AMO theory showed that employees' "learning ability (A) - learning motivation (M) - learning opportunity (O)" significantly strengthens the positive effect of peer failure information on enterprise innovation output, with learning motivation having the strongest moderating effect, followed by learning opportunity, and then learning ability the weakest; (3) The heterogeneity analysis showed that peer innovation failure information plays a stronger role in promoting innovation output for growing enterprises, non-state-owned enterprises and enterprises with fierce industry competition. The conclusions have not only highlighted the importance of external heterogeneous knowledge sources for enterprise innovation, but also enriched the mechanism research on improving enterprise innovation output from the perspective of human capital.

立足于企业创新失败情境,运用社会认知理论,探索了变革型领导对员工失败学习行为的影响机制。采用问卷调研法,以12家高新技术企业中的461名员工为样本进行实证分析。研究表明:在企业创新失败情境下,变革型领导与员工失败学习行为显著正相关;员工的组织心理所有权和组织支持感在变革型领导和员工失败学习行为间起部分中介作用。中介机制包括3条路径,即通过组织心理所有权进行传导;通过组织支持感进行传导;通过组织支持感影响组织心理所有权进行传导。
<div style="line-height: 150%">Social cognitive theory is applied to explore the impact mechanism of transformational leadership on employee’s learning behaviors from failures based on the context of enterprise innovation failures. Data of 461 employees in 12 high-tech enterprises have been obtained via questionnaire survey method, and then empirical analysis is conducted. The results show that there is a significant positive correlation between transformational leadership and employee’s learning behaviors from failures in the context of enterprise innovation failures. Organizational psychological ownership and perceived organizational support have a partial mediating effect on transformational leadership and employee’s learning behaviors from failures. Such mediating mechanism contains three paths: conduction through the organization psychological ownership; conduction through perceived organizational support; and conduction through effect of the perceived organizational support on organization psychological ownership of conduction.</div>

I analyze project continuation decisions where firms may resolve uncertainty through news about competitors’ research and development (R&D) failures, as well as through their own results. I examine the tradeoffs and interactions between product-market competition and technological learning from parallel R&D projects. Leveraging the biopharmaceutical industry’s unique characteristics to overcome barriers to measuring project-level responses, I use a difference-in-differences strategy to evaluate how competitor exit news alters a firm’s own project discontinuation decisions. The findings reveal that technological learning dominates competition effects. Firms are most sensitive to competitor failure news from within the same market and same technology area—more than doubling their propensity to terminate drug development projects in the wake of this type of information. Finally, I explore how levels of competition, uncertainty, and opportunities to learn moderate the response to competitor failure news.
